    What do you use to hold the cockpit refrigerator cover open when accessing inside? Haven't thought of a solution. We have a vertical load refrigerator in ours which has it's own insulated covers. Can't hold the fiberglass cover up, the interior cover and and still have a hand to get at the contents ;)

    Thanks

    Is this a flopping fish box or a real freezer for packages?

    Hatch holders that use springs work well.
    Or maybe Gas-springs.
    Installed under the cover on the right side.

    It is a food and mostly drinkg refrigerator. I don't think there is space on the side for a gas spring. I haven't looked at the folding spring type.

    Thinking will need a latch that holds it open attached to the outside of the cover.

    Then, there is a red-neck fish-billy;
    a cut to length broom stick option.

    I never go far with my stick;
    Straight ax handle cut down just a bit.

    I have the folding spring type for my cockpit freezer. Problem is the covers are heavy. If you bump the spring reaching in, the lid crashes down on you and hurts like like a sum bit-h

    I also have the folding spring on my cockpit freezer, but it is a heavier duty spring that is hard to bump. Works well enough.

    Been on some fish boats with chilled kill boxes in the aft deck. And of course spring hatch holders. Trying to throw a large fish in would hit the spring and close the top early.
    Oh, gas springs got bent.
    The boat finally starting using bungi cords from the gunnels to the lifting eye.

    This is why my first question was; Fish box?

    Only fish will be leftover crabs from the resturant.

    I looked at a couple of the folding springs. Need to see if the cover interior thickness/height is enough for the spring to 'fold'.

    I have the same cockpit refrigerator/freezer but mine doesn't have the internal lids, only the insulated hinged lid. Mine has a folding hatch support mounted internally on the starboard side, and yes if you bump it you'd better be ready to grab the lid or get out of the way quickly. BTW Frigibar still has all the cooling apparatus for these old units at a fair price for everything except the compressor.

    I removed the old cold plate unit and remote compressor. Current is an Isotherm bi-75 self contained unit. I had a new cover plate made to match the original box outline and adapt to the new refrigerator opening.

    I changed some of mine to the magnet type; changed some of the door knobs that stuck out in the hall way, to a flush type and cut the magnetic door holders shorter. Bertram took away 12" of beam when they redesigned this one from the 46.6 model, and lets just say it's not for Sumo Wrestlers.:eek:

    Thanks. Have been away on the boat for several days.

    I thought of a hook but didn't look at mounting on the side. I'll have to see where that would put the receiver piece on the back cabin wall.

    Mine was gutted and converted to an electric grill by the p/o. It's a pretty useful set up. The hatch stays up with a 2-piece telescoping rod, with a ferrule in the center to tighten for friction, hinged at the top and bottom. I'm away this week but I'll get a picture and post it.

    It's hinged just like the cooler was, with a drop-in electric slotted grill, the brand escapes me. I'll get some pics later this week.

    Is that a mirror on the inside of the cover or polished stainless? I'd like to line mine with something heat-reflective

    No idea as it was just a photo I found. All of my mirrors are the "plastic" type which would not be my choice to use in that location and even if stainless would want some insulation between it and the lid. One of my concerns would be to to have a grill that would not be susceptible to ANY rust. How has yours held up and for how long ?
