Starting the process to figure out where to get a 55ft motor yacht hull painted and with what paint. Last boat I had painted was a J105 with Imron ...so 15 years ago...so my experience is a little dated Open to any yard/location between West Palm and Jacksonville. Thanks! Bryan
Mine was just painted in Ft. Laud. Several painters recommended AwlCraft2000, which is what they used, as they say if ever any touch up is needed they can match it. I also had a very competitive quote from Hinckley in Stuart which would have been my 2nd choice but Ft. Laud. was easier for me. I've had several folks say AwlCraft is the one to go with now...thanks...and for the yard recommendations. Cheers
Plus one for Huckins, I have had 5 boats painted there. Awlcraft 2000 is more blendable than Awlgrip, but also softer. My current favorite is Alexeal for an owner operator. Somewhere between Awlcraft 2000 and Awlgrip. That said, I would not ask a yard to paint with a product they don’t normally use.
I would recommend AC2000, just painted a 50m with it, came recommended by several of the top paint crews in S. Fl. Personally I would stay away from Alexseal, I have seen its performance and not impressed. My detailer says he loves it as it keeps him in business, boats that are only a few years old need his treatment.
At one point I was leaning towards using Alexseal but was warned that despite it being very roll & tip user friendly and producing great looking results the problem finding yards that would permit spraying was "pushing" more to use that method but after a couple years was prone to having cracks show in corner areas. As Maldwin indicated, I would ONLY use a product the yard was very familiar with.
