I have a 2001 Cabo Flybridge and am looking for the manufacturer/part number for the gas shock that goes to the forward escape hatch. Please advise.
Look over the gas-spring well. Your looking for a part number. Google that. Or, Call the Hatt part store. Sams Marine dot com (no spaces)
It could be a off-the-shelf. Different gas springs use different ends. Worst marine used to stock the more simple ones. Further, I just found out on another boat (Hatt of liquordale), Some can be re-filled with gas. Part number important.
Were you aware there are 3 different sized balls? Some without ball ends? Over 75% gas springs can be replaced at WorstMarine. There are surprises.
You can get Stainless units at McMaster Carr, they have a very didd range and excellent quality stuff.
Be wary of the weight rating. Too stiff of a gas spring could result in difficult closing, the thing springing open too forcefully, or potentially tearing out the pivot mounts. Pressure too low would give you what you have now, in terms of operation. Assuming it is in place and just discharged.
Yep, another example of the part number from the failed gas-spring could help. It may offer the pressure or lift weight data.
I had a similar problem on a Swedish boat and thought it could not be so hard to find the right part. The top one on this picture was the original, the next was too long when compressed, the third had a too long gas tube. Not until the next did I get it all OK, the pressure, total length, length on the pieces, the right end fittings and also the tube diameter had to be correct...
