Hi, John Johnson here in Annapolis, MD.

This is my 1st posting, so let me know if I am not posting in the right location or anything such as that.

    I have a 2001 42' Post. Love her!

I purchased her in 2021 and found that my port side waste cap, "two holes" for opening is unusually shallow which caused the previous owner to use the tried and true hammer and slot screwdriver method for opening and closing. Now that this has been the case for some time now, this can't continue much longer as the cap is getting worse.

The cap itself measures 2 3/8" diameter. I have searched West Marine, Defender.com, and other small shops with no luck. I have found 1 1/2" - 2" - 2 1/8" but not 2 3/8". Not to mention I have no idea about the thread size. I am wondering if anyone else has had to replace this part. I am hoping I don't have to replace the entire assembly just for the new cap. However, access seems to be lined directly up with the galley's peninsula cabinetry. I am sure it's accessible, but not the easiest for sure.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks so much, John

IIRC, some are described by the outside diameter of their threads, not the outside diameter of their caps. For example, a "1½" product (thread OD) might have a 2-3/8" cap OD. Something like that...

    Whitecap is a typical maker...

    Thanks Chris!

That makes sense. I will check this out and measure the outside diameter of the thread. Then see what I can find.

    Thanks so much, John

Are you able to thread in the standard marina pump out fittings? Our Viking had european fittings (Vetus?) that would not accept the tyical pumpout adapter fitting as the cap/fitting thread diameter was just a 1/16 or so different.

Or maybe the measurement I'm trying to remember is the ID of the hose that attaches to it...

It's the ID of hose but different mfg luv to mess with you and use different threads on the plugs and caps. Metric, SAE or their own.
I found a match from a boat a few slips down, went shopping. Opened up a few boxes til I found the thread and brand.

I think Post was still using Buck Algonquin for their hardware like fuel fills, cleats and chocks and struts.
There is a distributor on the Sastern Shore in Rock Hall MD but probably one closer to you in the West.
