Trying to avoid entirely refinishing the Murry Brothers chair due to only a few bad small spots. No idea type of clear coating on it. Any suggestions welcome ??
Several coats (5-6) of High solids clear Awl grip was the method used in the 80's and 90's. Not sure what the go to is nowadays. It'll be difficult if not impossible to match those areas due to sun bleaching.
It might take less time to completely refinish the surface then trying to spot repair. Not the answer you're looking for, but my vote is to disassemble and strip.
I'm assuming a cushion usually covers that seat till heavy fish fighting starts. My short term and temp plan would be to spot clean/prep and pour in some AwlWood clear. Wet sand to level these patches. Get some decent looking protection on that wood ASAP. Next dark and stormy week, take it all apart and re-finish the whole seat properly.
