Following the successful launch and delivery of the 77M Project Lana -now known as Samar- the Devonport shipyard has moved on to bigger yachts. If Devonport yachts were not perceived to be on the megayacht map, Samar has definitely made them more known than they were before. Now with the quality of build of the Samar exhibited, it is time to move on to the 82M Project 54.

This 82M project, like Samar, is a very hushed project. She was slated for launch back in May, however, this apparently did not materialize. The massive 82M steel hull was constructed at Devonport's Appledore facility. On the other hand the aluminum superstructure was constructed and fitted to the hull at the said Devonport.

This massive project was designed by world renowned Andrew Winch Designs in conjunction with the Devonport yacht team. Project 54 was slated to be moved to the Devonport Royal Dockyard for final fitting out and completion.

Other well known names working on this megayacht include the technical oversight by Burness and Corlett & Partners, Southampton.

It is reported that Project 54 will become the new Sarfasa. Remember the Amels Sarfasa was sold a little while ago and renamed.

For those of you who might not know, the Devonport shipyard is no more as in Devonport Royal Dockyard and has been taken over by Babcock International Group PLC.

The Devonport site is currently under development.

Pretty over the top considering the designer. Very un-Andrew Winch, He must have been holding his nose all the while taking design advice from the Saudi prince. Sometimes even the world's best designers can't overcome the owners' own personal input and concepts of design, but it all pays the same in the end fee wise and then the designer buries it never to be seen or spoken about again... :)

Of course this would not be highlighted on their portfolio section on the website...in fact it isn't.

    Saudi prince?

I was going to suggest it may have been my dearly-departed grandmothers knitting club...

I believe that she was built for the old man (king) and now that he's dearly-departed, Jr. has her for sale in need a bit of a fluff and buff, but it leads me to believe that we now know what the interior of the Boeing 747 HZ-HMS1 looks like. Yikes!

Seen at the berth. In this video you can see the terrible state she is in... really neglected, paintjob wise.

Definitely a clear coat issue as you can tell from the transom cheeks in the multiple spot areas back there and the large area midships port side. The base coat Blue may be intact enough for just a scratch and shoot with a few new coats of high solids clear to bring the topsides back to life but it's hard to tell the amount of corrosion involved on the topsides that would have to be corrected if any, but the superstructure looks pretty good from 5 meters away. ;)

I don't like these types of designs, but this one has a strange charm.

It needs a serious refurbishment from all sides.
