That’s a Midnight Lace, right?

    I think I know the answer… that’s Tom Fexas designed Midnight Lace, right? Which yard built those, was it Cheoy Lee?

    Her name is Belle Noire, based in Miami. She was committee boat for the annual Washington Birthday Regatta, a revival of the earliest regatta ever held in SoFl back in the late 1800s.

    someone sent me the picture taken as we crossed the line.

    Yep, A Lace.

    "Built at Golden Wave Shipyards, which was founded by Hong Kong-based Cheoy Lee shipyard for Fexas’ creation"

    Another artical says:
    "The famous Midnight lace series were built in three sizes: 44′ (20 boats built), 52′ (13 boats built) and 65′ (1 boat built). The first two prototypes were built in Florida by Matlack, the 65′ was built in Brazil by Estaleiro Só and the rest were built In Hong Kong by Cheoy Lee. The new generation Midnight Lace’s were launched in 2003 and had two 52′ boats built by Bluewater Yachts in Taiwan."

    I understood later batch were built in Brazil. Not sure how many were completed there or when.

    There is a YF thread on them also, somewhere.

    I see Midnight Lace gliding by our place on the ICW, pretty bow waves curling back, small wakes at 17 knots. They look utterly classy and unruffled going through the water.

    The last time I saw THE 52 Midnight Lace, BELLE NOIRE, she was in pretty tough shape. She looks pretty good in that photograph, nice to see a boat on the upswing.

    Taken last week end during the Washington Birthday Regatta. That’s us crossing the line with the little gaffer I built.

    Nice! I was going to ask if that was you. Wasn't clear to me on your previous post. You built that boat? Wow, very cool. I must admit , I wouldn't mind a nice day sailer. Sailing is a good thing to know , even for us stink potters. Just not enough time or $$ for me.

    Yeah I designed and built her 10 years ago. We wanted a day sailor with a big cockpit yet it has a cabin with Vee berth, an enclosed fresh water head and a sink. Took me about 2 1/2 years to build. I even built the hollow mast…. The structure is divinycel, same with the hull below waterline. Above WL it is stripped planked western red cedar

    It's hard to believe it's been 10 years, I remember when you posted about building it. But was it a different video before, or maybe a series of posts? I feel like I remember more commentary on the process, and maybe some comments about the dog "helping" ...

    The ''PASCAL 26'' day sailer! Very nice boat. Most impressive Pascal. You both do great work. The video makes it look quick and easy, which I know it's not. To be able to say ''I built her" to others must be a great feeling!
