Oh ! Any club that serves alcohol can be possibly caught up !! with over serving just like a local bar owner can get caught up into things and they have been in the courts . ;) but lets not give any ideas to anyone .

Lets just turn this ship into the direction were we all can enjoy the water and deal with boat issue and just have Fun :)

I'm amazed. Is this what YF is now? I just read over hubby's shoulder but feel compelled to comment.

2 people lost their lives, 10 were injured, 2 seriously injured and in trauma units. The lives of the survivors and families have been changed forever. However, the responses are SSDD, SOSO, Darwinism, Yacht clubs, news media, conspiracy theories, speculation. The CG sent their condolences to the families but no one on YF feels that need? Think for a moment. These could be your friends or family or could have been you. Meanwhile political rants are going wild. I see the same on the threads on the boat fires, although fortunately all seem to have escaped with their lives, but one family did lose everything they owned.

Now this is a boating forum and should go deeper into these issues, but that seems missing too. I'll talk about the tragedy of the boat crash first, not the cause as we don't know that yet. There's the danger of boating at night. Then the danger of boating at night and speed. Then the danger of boating at night and not wearing life jackets or being able to swim. Yes, sadly, those in the smaller boat could not swim and did not have life jackets owned. The ones who were saved had PFD's thrown to them from other boats. While two drowned, two others nearly did so and last I knew were in a trauma unit. If they live, brain damage is likely.

How do we prevent such tragedies. Well, can't fully say until we know the cause of this one, but we can educate. Boating is a dangerous endeavor. However, we should push for those in smaller boats and those who can't swim to wear PFD's. Florida also should require any children to wear PFD's on boats that size. Many states require them for children under 13. Should it be older? Federal waterways, they're required under 13. I don't know the age of the kids here. We sometimes watch shows like Lone Star Law and North Woods Law with state game wardens. One thing they continuously state is that almost all the drowning deaths they investigate or try to do rescues on or do recovery on involve not wearing a PFD. Very seldom does someone wearing one drown.

As to the other topics that may arise when facts surface, I'm strongly opposed to operating while drinking, strongly opposed to high speeds at night in areas like Biscayne Bay, but will take more information to know they're involvement in this tragedy. Meanwhile I hurt and feel for the families of those dead and those who survived. On top of that I see the most obvious preventive measures that could have prevented the deaths here. Is it possible to turn this discussion productive instead of categorizing and name calling? I'll go back into my hibernation now and continue to enjoy Martha's Vineyard.

CR, in fairness towards Belle, it's not like any of the previous comments she's criticizing were very constructive, either.

My personal short reply to her initial question has to be no, this is not what YF is now - I mean, not YF specifically.
This is rather what the whole internet is about.
But this can't be an excuse for ridiculing the people involved anyway, regardless of what went wrong and why.

20 plus post later, we are past the news (what little there is/was) and what we think may have happened. We are now doing that internet chatter.
If she (anybody) is offended, change the channel..
