Have not given previous thought to a water maker as our current boat is 50 ft and space is limited, but I could do something in the lazerette. We are planning an upgrade in the next 1 - 2 years, so that influences what we will do. But something that we could use as a back up for our next boat may be worth doing.

I dont have my charts with me - which anchorages at Lee Stocking are accessible and protected? Do the protected looking coves on the west side have good water for access?

Modern water makers don't require a lot of space, and they can be separated and installed modularly in order to require even less space than their small profiles. Also, best to keep the motors and controls in the ER or another space with less salt humidity than a lazz.

South Andros? As in crossing the bank south of Andros or as in cruising the coast of Andros to the south?

note that Rudder Cut can be very nasty on an outgoing tide. Getting to the cut from the west along side Musha and Rudder Cut Cay only has about 6’ MLW. Galliot Cut, just a few miles north is a much better option

I’m headed down to South Bight on a personal mission. I’d like to stretch south to Crooked before heading north to Hatchet Bay and Harbour Island.

The best anchorage at Lee Stocking is Williams Bay, accessible from Adderly cut to the north or Rat Cut to the south. Follow the Explorer recommended tracks for 6’ MLW at the shallowest spots
I love Lee Stocking. Multiple nice beaches and trails. Don’t miss the Cliff Walk along the the sound side heading south from the cliff at Williams’s Bay.

yes. I was wondering without looking as to hedging across further south to eat some miles off the leg to Crooked. This is all in my head so far. Need to pull out the charts soon.

While you could get from the bank to the sound thru pudding cut at the northern tip of great exuma, the area between the bottom of the TOTO and the Exumas is pretty much uncharted. Not sure it is worth trying unless you have a very shallow draft

Looking at Explorer charts, there is Lark channel at the bottom of the Toto that leads to the Junentos and then Crooked and Acklins. Charts aren’t very precise in the area though and there are shallows and coral heads

Sounds like Lark is what was in my mind as being an option, and I need 6 feet. I’ll take a good look. If weather and visibility is any issue, you’re right in that it isn’t worth the risk reward.

Cave Cay has a well protected, nice marina, but nothing else there. Island is nice. Emerald Bay sucks due to the constant surge.

... and the dangerous entrance with NE swells.

Cave Cay marina is nice and clean, but as you say, there is nothing there. Maybe we spend a night there - can we get from Rudder Cut Cay to the marina entrance or do I need to go out Rudder Cut and come back in at Cave Cay?

The marina at Emerald Bay looks nice and has good medium term rates to leave the boat for a few weeks. I see review comments talk about the surge and entrance - is this all the time or only a blow from from the NE? Late June will hopefully be ESE prevailing winds - how is the marina in these winds. Also, for the entrance, what is to be avoided - E winds over 15 knots?

Yea you can go from Rudder Cay to Cave on the bank side along Musha. About 6 1/2 MLW. Explorer charts track is right on target. Navionics is wrong on that stretch as usual.

June should be ok at emerald. It w not the wind waves but NE swells that cause issues.

You can also easily get to Cave from Galliot Cut either from the ocean or bank, which is how I go.

I find Emerald Bay to always have surge in there......I wouldn't leave a boat in there un-attended, ever.

Last June we went into Emerald with the SE wind at about 15 knots. The entrance was challenging. I went in there on a plane and then idle once in the protection of the entrance. All in all not too bad just be aware and I think you will be fine. We did not have the surge in there during our 2 night stay. About the only place I know of in and around Georgetown to get fuel.

Exuma Yacht club has diesel, in Gtown. Docks aren’t in good shape but the fuel is good

Can you pay the fuel bill in lumber currency?

Yeah they could use fresh lumber. For years the rumor has been that the owner of the place is Eddie Irvine, of formula One (almost) fame. He also had a private cay and Home at the end of little Exuma.
