    That extra beam may not look as sleek, but sure would give a lot more interior room.

    But, but, those Cat 3196's are enough to scare most people away. Last time I talked to a Cat guy they were on about their 7th revision to the intercoolers for the 31 series. Run Forrest Run.

    I agree that you would get more room in the wide beam version, but then, why buy a Lace? It is somewhat like buying an underpowered early 70s sports car with SS stickers to make you think it is fast.

    I haven't seen anyone post here in a while. I hope interest in Midnight Laces hasn't wained. I have a Buyer who is interested in a nice clean 44 or 52 Lace. Anyone know of one that is not on Yachtworld?

    I'm looking to price out shipping from Seattle to Florida for a 52' Midnight Lace. Anyone know what the total height is from the keel up to the top of the flybridge. Transport companies want to see 13' or under.

    The one in Seattle has not worked out. And I still have a Buyer ready to buy a 52' Midnight Lace. Anyone have a line on one that the Owner is ready to sell?

    My wife and I just purchased Dragon Lady, a 1982 Midnight Lace 44, hull number 13. She is presently docked at Ortega Landing marina in Jacksonville. Late April or early May she will be transiting to the Connecticut river near our home. Being an aerospace engineer I would absolutely love to see any drawings of her structure and mechanical/electrical layout. Not sure how we can make contact.     I looked at that boat in 2019, then saw her again at Huckins last Summer, while my boat was being painted. I liked the fact she was largely unmolested, and had the full wood package. Did you survey her? I thought I felt a soft spot on the deck.

    That was the major issue the survey uncovered on the hull. 10 ft x 18" starboard, about half that on the port side, which is why she was at Huckins most of the summer. The previous owner kept the boat on a lift. We suspect the repeated lifting was the culprit, as the delamination started where the front of the lift ended. And, yes, all the wood is what we found so attractive. BDC will be adding canvas before we head north. CT weather is not as bad as Maine, but...

    Hi Bill, Can you share the issues you saw with Seattle boat. I am thinking about making an offer. My concern is that the Hull weight was shown as 29,000 lbs. on 2019 survey. Seems heavy. Water in hull?

    I'm planning to replace the battery cables on Dragon Lady in preparation of sailing her north to the Connecticut River in May. I would like to ensure that they are the correct wire gauge, but I’m having a difficult time determining the amperage draw of the starter motors. The engines are Yanmar 4LH-STE 3.4L turbo-diesels. The starters are 121254-77011 or 77019. I can find numerous websites that will sell me new starters, but no specs other than that they are 12 V. Anyone have a good contact that can help me out?

    Hello all,

    My wife and I were fortunate enough to come across a beautiful boat about 1.5 years ago. After sea trial and survey we purchased it I began doing some research as the seller informed us that it was a pretty special boat and fairly rare. It is an 83 midnight Lace 52 called Anhinga.

    I found these posts/conversations here and just thought I would read through them and while doing so noticed mention of a midnight Lace rendezvous. Does anyone know about this and if so are you able to share the information?

    Congratulations on buying ANHINGA. I saw her about 7 or 8 years on Dinner Key, and she seemed to be in good shape. Unfortunately, the Lace rendezvous vous was around 2002 in St Michael’s , and I don’t think there has been one since.

    My wife is really pushing me to find and purchase a larger boat as a full time vive aboard. That would mean letting go the the most perfect boat for my personal taste I have ever found. Anhinga is a 52 ft midnight Lace. 700 ish hours on a repower with Cummins. Gen set at same time.

    I purchased the midnight fancy. And she is absolutely awesome. I have a lift for her in the backyard. She is the smoothest boat I have ever owned and I have had her up to 28 mph. She is very efficient and I cruise her at 20 mph at 2,000 rpms. I'll list all the upgrades have done in future posts..

    Im not sure if you are saying you were considering buying this boat or selling it. I know the previous owner of the boat in marco island owned it for like 20 years. I looked at the Anhinga before and I wound up purchasing the midnight fancy. Anhinga was very rotten inside. All the floors were sagging inches throughout. The stringer under the head was completely rotten and you could easily put your fingers through. It was apparent there was an engine room fire at some point and the engines were replaced but they added jack shafts going from the Cummins to the v drive transmissions, causing a lot of vibration with very loud noise coming from the jack shafts. Unfortunately that pushed the engine's further back and they had to cut through the bulkhead going into the generator room aft. In my opinion the noise was unbearable. Also whoever painted the deck rolled on cheap paint possibly rustoleum top coat and it looks worse than the original paint that was not painted in other areas. It broke my heart to see such a beautiful boat so neglected and butchered. If you do own it now, I hope you were able to address at least some of those issues. I heard you were cruising in the cape Canaveral area about a year ago.

    For the midnight fancy I redid All of the outside teak. I resealed all the windows. I added a black powder coated half Tower with tan top and matching rear folding awning for fishing. I also added rod holders and outriggers for sport fishing. I wound up removing all the forward cockpit windows and removing the wood slats to get rid of any leaking points and make it look more like the modern laces. Up forward I also added throttles, steering, and GPS. As well as an inside helm with forward facing video monitor on the TV. I wound up completely redoing the head and replacing the sump pump along with a few bilge pumps. I also replaced the water pumps on the main engines and the generator as well as all the zincs and clean the heat exchangers.
