Are you saying that the MAN D2842 coolant circulation pumps are a gear driven rubber impeller pump?

Nope, it's the raw water pump I was talking about, which I believe is what CJ was referring to for the 183 MTUs in the post I replied to. But I agree that this doesn't have much to see with the OP problem, if that's what you are wondering.

No, no low coolant level alarms

Sorry to hear about your overheat. Had 50 Hatt with 3412's, over 5 years we had block heater thermostat failures a couple of times, no damage done they just were inoperable. We did turn them off before cranking engines with breakers in the er. Finally switched to small heaters with fans that did a good job keeping the er warm and dry.

So there are no low coolant level alarms and your temp indicators don't tell you anything until it's too late. So what would normally be a small, inexpensive repair normally becomes a huge expensive problem on these engines? That just sounds crazy to me. What was MAN thinking?

Update the MTU specialist pointed to the block heater failed/shorted, melted down, dumped coolant & overheated in a big way. After I replaced the heater and filled the system back up, fired up the engine for 30 min, I found oil was contaminated with coolant. MTU mechanic pressurized the system and it looks like both exhaust manifolds are cracked & leaking into two cylinders
It’s coming apart today for further testing, I’ll keep you posted

hopefully you get lucky and it’s just the exhaust manifolds. They’re expensive as it is, and I’ve had to have them removed due to exhaust leaks and that stupid spacer plate they use and it was pricey. Very.

My question is not related to your post. I can't figure out how to ask a question on this forum and I'm looking for guidance.
    Thank you.

Go the section you want to post in, threads then sub section such as engines, then in the top right of the grey area of the screen there is a tab labeled "new thread" click on that and create your post.
