    Virgin Islands newspapers are definitely more open with specifics. Seems a convincing case on the surface. Typically what would follow next would be a very significant offer to try to get her to drop the case.

    "First degree rape" and "You taste good" after licking his fingers. I guess that answers any questions about penetration being alleged. How could any man be so arrogant as to think any young woman wants to be groped by any 67 y.o. man unless he's paying her by the hour or night and a lot? (rhetorical) I'm usually very skeptical about these kinds of accusations, but when you start with someone who already feels entitled and the accuser is immediately losing her job and having her career basically ended, and there are witnesses,,,, I'm an old man and I find this disgusting and it leaves me feeling in need of a shower.

    That's called tampering with a witness and bribery, and it's great that recording devices are so easy to conceal today.

    Not actually. It's called settlement offers on the potential civil suit and part of the settlement is to not testify in a criminal trial. It happens all the time and prosecution can continue only if they have enough evidence to convict without the testimony of the victim. It's a major reason wealthy people don't find themselves going to jail for the same crimes poor people do.

    Paying money to the witnesses would be different.

    You forget, there is no civil suit at this time. The victim does not bring charges, the state or municipality does. She is just a witness. It may go on all the time, but it's still bribery and witness tampering.

    No excuses young or old but his lack of excuses is exacerbated by his position. He should be convicted and imprisoned. I just see two many situations where wealthy men buy themselves out of similar trouble.

    I ask you at this point if you were the victim, would you rather have him convicted and sent to prison or $200k? Or $300k? Of course, you'd rather have both. Rape trials are very difficult on victims as they get dragged through the mud in spite of every effort of the prosecutor to prevent it.

    The reality is that wealthy rapists rarely are convicted, but rarely even arrested so this is beyond the norm. Even if the victim testifies, if they have a civil attorney and civil case, the jury often holds that against them. One key is getting testimony from previous victims admitted. There almost always are previous victims but they typically refuse to come forward and, if they do, may not be heard in court.

    It will be interesting to see how this evolves. I hope to see him punished harshly.

    She's the victim, not a witness and the moment she has an attorney, his attorney will be in touch. She withdraws the complaint and it's all over.

    Unfortunately we deal, through our foundation, with many rape victims. Two very different scenarios, those raped by poor and those raped by wealthy. Even other sexual activities. Do you see Robert Kraft or any former Presidents doing time? How many did Weinstein pay off? It's very challenging. I hope for prison but don't really expect it for him.

    Absolutely and sadly true. Always has been. Fortunately though we seem to be in an era when women want their pound of flesh rather than dollars. They're a lot less likely to be bought off or intimidated. From Cosby to Weinstein to Epstein we're in a different time...thankfully. And for those who were previously intimidated or denied justice there are a lot of good lawyers who can afford to take their cases.
    P.S. Also you noted, they'll now be looking for other victims and men don't suddenly start doing this at 67 y.o. So, if this is true, I think this guy is going down.
