Sadly superyacht "GO" plowed into a berth recently. Not sure what happened in relation to the circumstances surrounding the loss of control. This happened in SXM, and is now the latest high-profile crash there.

My guess is a control issue, if you look at the end of the video when she is stopped there is still forward wash at the stern.

Looks like they will have to call the vinyl wrap guys back.

How anyone wealthy enough to afford a 250+ feet hobby can at the same time be so obtuse to have it built by the same folks who produced the epic disaster known as Yogi, that's one of life's misteries.

Hope the captain hasn't misjudged the wind and the sea current

Hahahaha I thought the same thing!
My thought was...this is what you get if you have your beautiful yacht built by Turquoise

Assuming it is a problem with the engine controls, the onboard engineer should still be able to stop the engines applying the emergency stop.

I saw a video where you can see the Captain reversing the trust immediately after the impact, moving the yacht away from the jetty, so...I imagine the propulsion system was warking..

    check here from 0:56

No time. Besides the virtually every boat I've seen the captain has emergency kill switches at every control station. There is so much forward momentum that the crash in inevitable.

Now, many of the boats I've built/worked on, I try to have a manual engagement/override on the transmissions, but they all take time to work. It's mostly an open ocean "get home" feature. You have a shift failure at sea, override it, get the boat to the sea bouy and have the tugs bring you into the harbor. Not designed for rapid close qtrs maneuvering.

The problem with the engine controls must have been an intermittent issue, otherwise the Captain would have engaged reverse much earlier and prior to impact.

I hate to see this, I've had the controls go out once on me, not a fun experience.
I don't like to speculate or comment on these threads, and I will never post one.
I think it is bad Karma, that could be me one day.

That is the best video. He didn’t hit the docks once but twice?? So port was in reverse full blast, but there was some forward thrust on Starboard. Very clear at 0:14. And at 0:47 when he took another shot at the docks...

He wasn’t going to the bridge as it is closed.

Maybe he saw his GF on the dock with another guy :)

That’s not a report, that’s what passes for journalism in the islands.... they were not heading for the bridge since it was closed... and the reporter fails to report that they hit the dock twice! Great work

I agree although in this case you have to wonder where the captain didn’t shutdown the engines instead at letting boat get away from him a second time

I doubt it is a tough call, and a split moment decision. Especially so close to shore and the bridge with a possible current going out
