So Louis Burton finished 2nd, 4 hrs 8 minutes behind.... had he not crossed the start line a couple of second ahead he would not have had a 5 hour penalty and would have crossed the line 52 minutes ahead. This is nuts.

American Magic just hit 50.8 knots in Race 1!

Still trailing Luna Rossa though... but OMG that's frighteningly quick!

    Edit: I posted too soon... 53.4! o_O

In my Island, that's twice the National Speed Limit. The Cops would give you a $1000 fine and off the roads for 3 months.

    This is under sail!!!!

Here we go again, Race 2.

Poor Magic looked under duress even coming to the start. Not good for the boys.

Luna Rossa made very few mistakes and the result showed that in tough conditions for both boats.

Well it wasn’t even close... and American Magic almost crashed out again... they haven’t won a race so far in the Prada Cup.

Race 1 of the Prada final and INEOS made a mistake on the start-line and it cost them big time. Prada romped away to the first finish. I think both teams had got the wrong sail set-up for the winds at the begining but the Italians got it better sorted.

The wind is building for Race 2, should be much closer.

    Race 2.
Luna Rossa was some 0.25kt quicker almost everywhere. So the Italian boat takes a 2-0 lead.
    Brilliant TV to watch.

I see that too, I also see as you pointed out sail choice is a big deal on these vessels. Luna Rossa Parada is as fast, not looking faster, but I see they are pointing higher and hence fractional advantage on VMG for sure. If they race clean mistake free as they have the Beast aka Spitill is on track to meet the Kiwis.
    As you say Brilliant.
I have noted that Mr. North Sails Ken Read is a bit contrary in his jabbing with the color commentator, chippy even. So the broadcast is as feisty as the race course.

I would never count out Sir Ben though.

My wife, the real sailor in our family, pointed out something interesting as it relates to the big picture and the boats country of origin.
Since when was British engineering thought of as top notch in a historical perspective? She said she is not surprised that the UK boat may not be up to snuff.

Sir Ben is crap. Every early race campaign he has done in the last 35 years, he has lost the first few races. All his Gold medals and Cup wins have been from behind.

    Just don't piss him off.

Luna Rossa showed her hull speed again, there's nothing you can do against that.

    Race 3 done and dusted.

    Race 4

Luna Rossa just left Ineos with boat speed. Nothing you can do with that.

    4-0 for the win.
