Deleted my account on Friday night and am going to make an honest attempt to not use Amazon unless absolutely necessary . Its not so much that I'm mad that they collect data, I know they do and that's how they subsidize the free shipping and deep discounts on products. Even if it costs me a few more bucks and is not as convenient I'll shop locally to support the little guys just out of principle.

FB no problem, but good luck with Amazon. It's hard to beat having 50 variations of whatever obscure thing you're looking for right at your fingertips and at your door a day later. Walmart.com is a good alternative but I think that's just exchanging one giant for another. How I miss Cal's hardware store where you couldn't find anything but Cal could point you right to it and tell you how to use it.

Never used Facebook. Amazon has it all, but now on the bottom of our list, kudos to supporting small business.

I deleted FB from my phone and tablet over a month ago. I do miss not reading the boat mfg news and boating groups. But will never reinstall FB. Nor will I continue my certification in AWS and don't recommend any company use AWS, now that they showed their hand, if they do not like what you do, sell or support an agenda that they do not like. You will be shutdown, their goes your website, servers, applications, database server and your Company. I like what Florida did with passing a Bill that will fine Twitter, FB and any other company that shuts down your account, I don't recall what is actually in the Bill.

Good advice on AWS. I setup a mailing system with Amazon's Web Services called Sendy, but soon learned how invasive Amazon services are, so I reverted to XenForo's internal mailing system. It's secure, safe and most important... private.

Always questioned why anyone thought data mining by anyone was a good idea.
Now Facebook is considering adding facial recognition to their "Smart Glasses". What could possibly go wrong with that intrusive idea?

We've seen a dramatic rise in search from DuckDuckGo (DDG). As more people are becoming aware of the invasion of privacy by big tech, they are becoming more proactive. Website cPanels provides metrics for webmasters. Historically, Google has been 95% of the search traffic we receive. Not anymore... DDG accounts for nearly 20% now. Google is down to about 75%, while Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, Yandex and Majestic Twelve account for about 5%.

I find duck duck a little light in their search results, not the extensive cover that Google does. Hope they improve with more users.

I started using da duck long ago. Never missed a thing (that I know of) in my searches.
YF does appear at or near the top when searching for related topics.

Just read 533 million Facebook users phone numbers, and personal data were leaked online.... Imagine that.
Been using the Duck for awhile, works for me.

    From Wired Magazine in 2004...

    https://www.wired.com/2004/02/pentagon-kills-lifelog-project/

The Pentagon canceled its so-called "LifeLog" project, an ambitious effort to build a database tracking a person's entire existence. Run by Darpa, the Defense Department's research arm, LifeLog aimed to gather in a single place just about everything an individual says, sees or does: the phone calls made, the TV shows watched, the magazines read, etc.

LifeLog was shut down because congress deemed it too invasive. Immediately after, a privately held company called Facebook was launched. Coincidence? Maybe, but as a privately held company, Facebook was not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

    You were right, Kevin...
