Considering purchasing a 1985 38' ocean alexander. Vessel has twin Perkin 135's with approximately 1600 hours. What should I see for fuel consumption at cruise speed? Have a old survey that says 8gph at 8knts. Current owner says 5gph at 8knts and 3.5gph at 7knts.

Sounds correct, but depends on current.......But at each RPM level should burn that I'd guess.

I'd guess you're looking at the difference between the factory specs from the surveyor and the owner's math. The day he figured it was he mostly cruising with the current? I'd go by the factory specs.

Obviously current plays a role and yes I am
Going by what the survey says versus owner. Am looking for someone with this style boat that might be able to give me more realistic numbers. Thank You

Did the engines make WOT rpm? If so, Just find a propeller curve chart for those engines and the RPM and fuel burn will be on there. To be honest, unless one is planning a long passage with no fuel stops, for displacement speeds-not pushing a big bow wave, the fuel burn is irrelevant relative to other boat costs.

here is a great discussion on that engine and fuel burn.
