I'm opening this thread because I'm sick of seeing so many other useful threads shut down because some folks can't manage to keep their politics and opinions about world topics to themselves. I've been told, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

So if you are one of those keyboard jockey's that loves taking a shot across the bow of certain individuals, or if you're the guy that is easy to arouse and can't let a comment go without response, there is a now an appropriate place on YF for you to wax poetic.

Next time you feel like throwing your two cents on current events out there, you now have a spot.

If you just feel the need to volley back and forth, here's your place to do so.

When you just CAN NOT help yourself from replying to an opinion you don't care for or share, this is your zone.

So please, for the love of everything, direct your expertise to this thread when you feel those uncontrollable urges sneaking up on your keyboard!

    Ken nicely done, totally agree.....

I rarely post but read YF daily, a true treasure chest of valuable yacht/marine related info contained in the many YF threads.

Sad that so many informative threads become tainted by opinionated often improper posts.

Hopefully the keyboard Covid doctors and biased self-proclaimed politicos will remember this website is called "Yacht Forums".

All are encouraged and welcomed to provide their subject/topic related expertise and shared experiences. That is what allows those with questions to benefit from the knowledge contained here on YF. Fewer posts due to closed threads often leave many unanswered questions.

Many other websites to express non-yacht/marine narratives, YF will prosper and continue to grow with answers and fresh threads which will bring aboard new members adding new perspectives.

Simple solution for success, keep the posts on course, a little deviation can be expected but do not stray too far off the heading. Keep it in the channel so the threads will not run aground.

    Cheers !!!

    Scott

I found that Ignore button in the user set up screen.
    Put some folk in there.
Have no idea when , where they post. Don't even see their text.
I don't get upset anymore with them.

I just have to trust the OP realizes the BS when it come their way.

I may get long winded on some subjects, but deep in my comments (somewhere) I'm still on topic.

Place your mouse cursor over your screen name on the top of the Y F page.
Bottom right of this pop up is Persons to ignore. Click here.
Start typing the offending screen name. The page will fill in the rest of the name for you.

Alternatively, click on the member's screen name next to one of their posts. A window will pop up with options, including 'follow' or 'ignore'.

Something to consider... when you ignore a member, you no longer see the content of their posts (although you can see they have posted something). While you may not like their opinions, their posts are still being seen by other readers and we rely on our senior members to correct erroneous information.

The simple solution is to stay on topic. Members who repeatedly use YF for political dissent need to stop diluting the resource we've all worked hard to build. Political comments are obviously a turn off, but it's not just politics that taint a forum, it's also brainless banter.

    Ah, that's cool.
Is there a users guide for your site?

Not my site. Our site. We all built this together.

The user guide? Click on different things until something happens. :p

This is what usually starts a lot of the issues.

All members do offer their assistance to the OP when they can. Hopefully weighed well.

Ok, I've done the same. Thanks, Capt Ralph...

And my apologies for the few times I've run into shallow water and lost steerage.

Oh, another tid bit, In a few minutes, the ignored post goes away from your screen.
In the shadows on the bottom right "show Ignored Content" may bring them back up.
I'm not sure if it works it being in shadow text.
I'm not going to try it.
