It's what the rest of the world calls them, instead of what we called them in Korea

Having sailed on PCC's for a couple of years - one a Chief Mate, I'm very curious as to the loading plan/stability calculations. It was quite common to have the final load numbers arrive as the pilot was aboard and the tugs were making fast. . .I was the red-headed step-child during one cargo op when I told the master we couldn't go! ! ! Oh yeah. The fur was flying! ! !

I don't think the pilot is the problem - that he was smart enough to beach the vessel instead of blocking the channel might have been the most prudent thing he could do under the circumstances. He's not privy to the stability calculation of the vessel.

As a retired commercial mariner, with a Masters AGT Oceans license, I held the USCG somewhat in contempt. As a citizen, I hold them in high-regard. They really are life-savers. . . But Jesus, how hard is it to hold a virtual hearing where the viewer can hear what in the f'k they are saying??? It isn't rocket science to rig a microphone into the video feed...

And that's one of the reasons I hold the USCG in contempt.

They could have flown a complete crew of breakers from Bangladesh to do the job six months ago. Disgraceful!
