Doubt it was intentional, there is more to this story. Floriduh allows 14 year old kids to operate a personal water craft. What could possibly go wrong?
Either the operator wasn’t paying attention or maybe the jetskis were not “parked” but just cut it to close or turned into the path. Who knows. Most jetskis movements are impossible tO Predict.
The article says they were stopped. As for 14 year olds on PWC, I was 6 when I got my first boat. Used to be that 12 year olds could get married, I was working by 14 and by 18 "kids" are killing and getting killed in wars. I think kids are a lot older than we'd like to give them credit for. But again the article says they were stopped. Still I expect no action beyond a lawsuit.
The content of the article is convincing that the Captain was irritated with jet ski traffic. The motor yacht was the predator and the jet skis the targets. For the captain to then turn around and say they “shouldn’t have got in the way” is arrogant and bang out of order.”
“We know jet skiers are the most hated people on the sea, but this person has taken it one step too far,” the source said. “ So, it's not just me?
Quite frankly if he actually said that then he should be held accountable as he probably did zero to mitigate the impending collision. Doesn't matter who caused it, it's still his responsibility to minimize the impact. (Or avoid it entirely?
Personally I'd fire the captain on the spot were I the owner. Personally I'd arrest him if I were a cop. Still I doubt anything will happen besides a little cash changing hands.
Do you really believe this line? Or any of this article? This whole story smells of old bait and he-said / he-said should be taken with grains of sand (or mud).
That sounds made up to me. Who heard that statement ? What did the captain do, run out on the rear deck and shake his fist " You shouldn't have gotten in the way " !!
So many red flag in this article... especially from something which appears to be a professional website (judging by the name ) first... the jetskis were “Parked”. Unless this is a gas/petrol, hood/bonnet, trunk/boot British English word how the hell can 3 skis be parked! then of course no mention of the boat, its size etc. That said, I have had to blow 5 blasts so many times because of idiotic Jetski operators including the morons that stop a couple of hundred yards ahead of me to chat without looking around to see what’s coming and then look surprised when they hear the horn.
Too much hyperbole in the article for me to give it full credence. Coast Guard didn't investigate, local harbor authority to do so.
We have been further up-river for a while now. Lots more PWCs. It is more evident here and probably the same world wide, I am convinced that most PWC operators do suffer from SPS. Shame, when I rode a friends big Sea-Doo many (many) years ago, it was a lot of fun but I never gave up on the fact it was another boat on the water subject to all the rules and safety concerns that apply to all vessels on the water. I still believe this story is full of something other than facts.
Standard British tabloid stuff. Click Bait. Spreadable Media. Whatever else you want to call it. But it's not journalism. They do it to get what they're getting right here. This kind of "reporting" seems to be typical across most anything I see from the UK with the exception of content from the BBC.
