The hardest things here on week end is to find an idiot free place to anchor so we can be safe.

This one takes the cake. Fast forward to 0:38.

I like the 2nd boat who launched the girl overboard. Notice he didn't come back for her? To me that would be a relationship ender. Any bets she stayed with the wave runner guy?
Isn't a boat's throttle like cruise control; just set it and forget it?
Funniest thing about that video is that none of those scenes were in what I would consider rough conditions.

Well maybe you haven’t run some of these inlets but they get pretty rough. In these conditions there was no Way the operator of that bow rider could have come back and picked up her up. She could barely make it up the jet ski. But hey she saved the phone so her social media is safe ! I guess jet skis can
Be beneficial once in a blue moon :$

All inlets can get rough, and yes I've run Haulover many times. In fact I've run most navigable inlets (and some not so much) on the east coast. I always assumed I would die coming in an inlet. Every one of those clips were boats that failed to slow down and/or time the waves, but I saw no seas there that should be a problem for an experience boater with his brain turned on and his hand on the throttles where they should have been. If that operator would have just gone to neutral she'd have come right to him as she did the wave runner. It didn't look like he even noticed her going overboard or that she was missing from right in front of him. Not a person I'd ever want to go boating with.

Actually you can see the helmsman pointing to the MOB in the slow motion bit, at 1:00.
What I find even more outrageous than not having attempted to come back (also because there's no way they could have been faster at that than the jetski) is that from the video it doesn't look like he disengaged the engines at any moment.
Then again, as you said the chap is obviously unable to use the throttles for navigation - all the more so for acting promptly upon an emergency, I guess.

BTW, this thread gives me the opportunity to ask you guys familiar with the E coast of S FL one thing I always wondered.
Aside from possibly going out for fishing - which obviously is NOT what a boat like that is doing - what other reasons do boaters have for going out in the ocean in that area?
My first hand experience is very limited, having only been out of FLA for commissioning seatrials, but that stretch of coast appeared to me as one of the dullest I've ever seen.... o_O

I think Bahamas are like 50 nm away from Haulover, but in reality most of the not so big boats go for a run of fun after taking endless gallons of flammable-liquids at the sand-bar.

To take a dump? And I don't mean passengers.

The ICW is an incredibly slow route if going up to Lauderdale, etc. In the ocean you can just set your auto pilot and go (hopefully maintaining a watch for divers who come out from shore and only show a dive flag near the surface).

Different perspective of the same incident shows a guy going in the save the damsel. Jet ski saved him as well.

Many reasons, just to run fast is one. Diving, snorkeling, swimming is another. Or simply running from Miami to Miami Beach, or up to Fort Lauderdale. The Intracoastal waterway does the same thing but is much slower (albeit more scenic with houses). A lot of owners I run boats for will do something like run from Government Cut (Miami Beach) or Port Everglades (Ft. Laud) to Haulover and take the Intracoastal back to mix it up. A circle so to speak......

Although when it s rough, and it was blowing 15+ that day it s not worth running outside. Kind of funny when people spend the day on a boat but are in a rush to go somewhere and are willing to get beat up in the process.

at least she saved her phone :)

I saw her clutching her phone, which was almost certainly destroyed by salt water.

Yes, I don't get that either. You see many people rushing through no wake or slow speed zones all in a hurry, when they're out on their boat for a day to go nowhere in particular.

    Aha, I see.
Frankly speaking, I'm not sure I'd even bother turning the engine keys on for any of those reasons.
Aside from heading towards Bahamas, though I guess this is what just a tiny minority of those boaters are doing.
But fair enough anyway, each to their own.

Probably I'm just spoiled by the fact that I have several quite decent anchorages just round the corner from my marina.
In fact, it doesn't take me more than 30 mins or so to reach all the spots in this video, just to give an idea of what I mean...

Mapism- most of the crowd you see in the Haulover videos are more interested in looking at girls in bikini's than rocks (and Beautiful coves).

Here's the sandbar that's 1/4 mile away from where those Haulover inlet video's are taken. You may notice that the crowd there is a lot younger and liquor infused!!!!

pretty much every phone made in the last 3 years is waterproof. Heck it may have recorded the whole thing live on social media :)

I understand (or should I say remember...?) the attraction of girls in bikini.
What I don't get is the reason for bothering with the hassle of boating.
I mean, there's no alternative to enduring the inevitable boat-related headaches (and costs!) we are all familiar with, if diving in crystal clear waters in the middle of nowhere is your thing.
But if all you're looking for are girls and booze, you can get both without risking to throw the former overboard while crossing an inlet...
Then again, I did say each to their own!

Mix girls and booze and young men trying to prove how cool they are and any stupid thing is possible and more than likely probable.

Might have said this before, but worth repeating... common sense should be mandatory equipment. With the explosion of larger / faster boats, coupled with folks who have more dollars then sense, we can expect a few more bikinis to be ejected from their ornamental positions.
