Hi all, I'm new here and I joined as I need some advice from the pros!

Would you recommend the Antares 8 as a beginner boat? Is it an easy-maintenance? What are the maintenance costs like? What similar motor yachts would you recommend?

I look forward to hearing from you!

Beginners boat: sure, but I would not spend $40,000-$60,000 on my first beginners boat.
Easy maintenance: yes, seems like a single outboard would be easy to maintain, this will be on a trailer or in the water will determine more about maintenance.
Maintenance cost: outboard service can be DIY or for that motor Break Out Another Thousand for the oil/filter/impeller service. Other maintenance items are cleaning, waxing, bottom paint or not depending on your use, replace some pumps now and then, new batteries now and then, I would say $3-5 grand per year would do it.
Similar boats: too many to list.

This is a fine example of an easy to get into and easy to manage boat. You should be fine.

I would probably look at the sister ship Jeanneau and the Cutwater is in this type of vessel as well.

Where will you be using the boat?

200hp on a 27 footer is pretty low... according to the link posted it only cruises at 18/20kts. Adds some gear, water etc. and it will probably struggle. That may be ok in Europe where fuel is twice as expensive but in the US that’s a dog.

Thanks a lot both of you for the advice. I intended to use it in Europe. The problem that I'm now realising is that the boat STARTS at Euro 32k, and in order to be of any use you'd need to pay double on "extras", which include cushions, toilet, and other things which I thought were covered by the 32k.... I'd never pay 70k on a small boat like this... Change my mind?

Good for you. Start looking at previously owned boats.
