    Hi, I'm looking at a 2003 Jefferson 73 in San Diego and there is some confusion about which version of 12v183 is installed. The listing is 650 HP per side but that seems low for this size engine. I was able to read the serial number from the port engine -- 44901526024839. Is there a way to look up the version from that?

    YEAH, call an MTU dealer. 650 HP does sound very low for a 12v183, most of the ones I ran were 1150HP.

    Just read the commercial version runs 818hp continuous operating. 650 sounds very low.

    They did make 8v183's and the lower HP version would've been around 650 HP, that would be my guess is that they're either 8v183's or the listing HP is wrong. The HP is wrong, there is NO way that big, heavy yacht with a 6' draft cruises at 16 knots and tops out at 21 knots with 2-650HP engines.

    Thank you guys for confirming my suspicion. I'll reach out to MTU and see if they can pull up the serial number.
