    I used to run a 70 footer with twin 50amps and did a few runs between Miami and nantucket. Getting 50 two 50amps was never an issue until Long Island and New England... I never understood why so many marinas up there had such lousy electrical.

    the 32v system is no big deal. It s not ideal but there are LEDs now that will work on 32v so you just carry spares. Certainly not a deal killer

    for us a queen works just fine. I find a king to be waste of space. When I refitted my 53, I could have done a king in the master, there was enough room but getting a mattress down there would have been challenging. Plus I don’t necessarily want all that space between us... :)

    Older Hatteras offered flexibility with electrical and unless you have a full house you could turn off some of the ACs in unused rooms and run the whole boat on a single 50 amp cord.

    If you'd like to check out spending time aboard and catamarans look into The Moorings. Maybe charter one for a few days.

    Good question. Only thing I can think of is the high cost of electric here. What I can tell you is that at the end of a dock you can easily come up short.
    Cool to hear about the LEDs. If it weren't for internet ordering we'd have been in the dark.
    Agree
    Loved the Hat's electrical panel and versatility, but our draw popped quite a few dockside breakers along the way (yes mostly up north and in Canada).

    The Vic Franck Boat Co is pretty much unknown on the Atlantic coast but just FYI they are very well known in the PNW and built many exquisite vessels. Including Steve Miller's ABRACADABRA.

    Problem is that builders assume people will Never use a full load... yeah you can run full air con but then if you have to run a dryer and cook. pop! The watermaker? Pop! Managing loads is always a major pita. Then when you re at a dock where voltage is below average... Amps go up and Pop! Here in Staniel whenever we dock I usually end up running half the boat on shore power and the other half on one generator during the day. Come sunset I can shut off one chiller run it all on shore power. With a full house we re running the watermaker 8 to 10 hours a day... at least one dryer 4 hours a day... then the water heater runs On for hours and hours ...

    I would never bring a motorcycle on a boat, especially talking about South America, headaches not only getting the rust cycle on and off the boat, but registration, import duty's, insurance..Just say no.
    (Are we being a troll here with requirements for a King Size bed, and a motor bike?)
    Go with the flow, hop on the local bus to get around, sleep in a queen bed unless you both are 350 lbs, and/or need company. o_O
    Got a King bed at home, but love my Queen on the boat.
    Go now, go small, forget the bike and the King.

    Will your single generator not run the entire boat? I'd just run the entire boat on the generator and not pay for electric at all if the gen is running.

    Some of the new electric bicycles will do 28 mph or so, easy to get around and no registration issues to deal with. However, I have a friend that carries 2 mopeds to the Bahamas every year and doesn't seem to have an issue.

    I ran a 58' yachtfish and only ever used 1 50 amp, that's all we had provisions for.....and it was fine......

    On my 53 Hatt, the 18kW gen will run pretty much everything except the Two of the dryer, oven or stove at the same time with full AC...

    on the 84 lazzara, both chillers, the watermaker and or some cooking will trip the 125 amp breaker on either 27.5kw Ohnos Add just one dryer and...POP! I have re configured the ISIS system to show amp leavers on the main screen and have that on the galley TV at all times. The power usage is just ridiculous. now we Had to install an extra full size fridge / freezer plus two smaller fridges plus an extra ice maker to keep up with our needs :)

    How long has it been since you've had your chillers cleaned? When they get dirty, they draw a lot more amps.

    I suggest you go to different parts of the country and rent different kinds of boats. A day on the water does more than a week behind a screen.

    Haha Norseman. No not a troller just don't know the limitations yet. Like I said, this string has me changing my requirements as I learn. Love the rent idea Oscarvan... didn't even know that was option. The electrical conversation is also very helpful!
