Along your analogy, it seems to me that we are all cruising a canal with very tight draft restrictions, whether we like it or not.
Stripping comments sounds like hoping to get rid of the problem by not looking at charts.
    Anyway, your world, your rules.

But if honest attempts to contribute to the debate get stripped, we can as well kill two birds with one stone:
by saving our time posting comments, we also save yours in stripping them - talk about a win-win situation!
    Fair winds.

Nice data reference, with emergency measures both Germany and the US will be increasing the odds in the patients favor.

Tragic times call for heroic measures, hearing accounts of hospitalized elderly in Italy giving their ventilators to younger patients, essentially the gift of life.

I think those who were around before I retired and went silent on YF for awhile know that I have some pretty strong political and social views that I'm not shy about pushing. It's been a challenge for me to be circumspect in my comments on this thread and to keep on topic as it relates to boating, but I've tried. The fact is that there are a lot of forums for political postings (boy do I give FOX an earful. lol) I must say that the mods here give us a lot of rope, but they also do a very good job of keeping things on topic and are judicious about cleaning up the threads (even when they chastise me). The fact is that as we come into spring and summer boating season we need clear info about how, when and where we can use our boats, and YF is the place to get it. So the less we clutter it up with politics and such the better.

Not my world. OUR world. We all built YF together. You're relatively new here Mapism, but our mods have been behind the screen every day for 18 years. We've fought hundreds of battles with bullies, spammers and people with an axe to grind. A few years ago, our senior members agreed to give us leeway to do our jobs without being drawn into debates. When needed, we remove posts that are not relevant because NOBODY comes to a forum to read bickering, arguing, combative threads. Because our senior members are vigilant, we rarely need to edit or remove anything.

We have some seriously experienced folks around here, including yourself, that have made YF a resource for us all. We will NOT let their collective contributions be diluted with ad-lib, off-topic comments. IT WILL KILL A FORUM. Threads that divert from topic, or become political in nature, become a turn off for members and readers alike.

Right now - more than ever - let's be united by our common denominator.

Well, in Florida Gov DeSantis has issued guidelines allowing boat owners to use their boats as long as they stay 50’ away from others and don’t have more than 10 people on board who must be immediate family. Common sense rules which local mayors should follow

Also, The tests cost $35-51 a piece to process. They have to be tested using molecular testing and only 25 laboratories in the U.S. are able to process them, aside from Government laboratories.

PASCAL- What I find very confusing is the State was late to the party to issue boating specific things. However, each county was doing a totally different set of rules and what boating aspects are open, all boating aspects are closed, etc. etc. I pulled a boat out of a high and dry in North Miami last Tuesday, they put it in the water days before...…..all employees were there, but nothing moving and no customers around......but mine was a special circumstance as it was being loaded on a freighter and HAD to go.

Saw a few marine police sitting in the middle of the channel, one right in front of the sandbar at Haulover. They stared at me and the mate and passed 40' away from us but didn't say anything. Perhaps it was the 35' bright red center console I was running with 3-350's on it. LOL. Passed another one in Hollywood, same thing.

When we got back from the Exumas on wed we anchored by Key Biscayne to wait for our appointment with Peterson Fuel at Bayfront. There was a police boat by the sandbar To prevent parties but no issues with the 12 boats anchored out well spaced out

I read an interesting article on why Sweden isn't locking down. They feel that their average Swede will practice safe strategies to prevent runaway infection rates. So far, their infection rates are not much different than their Scandinavian neighbors that are locked down. Time will tell if this is a practical approach.
I don't know what Belarus has in mind.

Nice: Cruised by your tub on the hard several times and got pics.
Never saw you however? (Closing down YOT daily ?)

Love your boat, my type of boat: Single engine and seaworthy, just like the owner :p
See you next time, be good and stay away from crowds and Coronas. :(

This is updated every day at 1700hrs local time or 2100UTC
    Positives: 118,234
    Negative: 617,470
    Hospitalized: 16,729
    Deaths: 1,965
    Total test results: 735,704

JH figures don't jive. China stopped reporting 15 days ago and Russia has kept the lid on it since November.
Belarus which is not in lockdown has 94 cases and no deaths

And for Canada: JH figures are 300 higher than the govt figures

Our stores are out of most staples like TP, paper towels, milk, eggs, bread, meats. I mentioned to a friend that he better stock up on coffee and he almost went off the deep end. I've often joke about people's addiction to coffee (being a Coke drinker). Looks like that day of reckoning may be close.

I just got back from my local grocery store, with mask and gloves on, pretty much most things are back in stock . A week ago it was getting bare. Not to many people shopping btw, so that made it nice. Only thing still really missing was cleaning products.

Key numbers as I read it with deaths now at 2211.

US deaths today, so far, 515
    Yesterday 401
    Thursday 268
    Wednesday 247
    Tuesday 225
    Monday 141
    Sunday 113
    Saturday 46

    1 week, tenfold increase.

Europe deaths remaining at same high levels, Italy 889, Spain 844, France 319.

If in seven days we're at the currently level of Italy or Spain, that is around 5000-5500 deaths per day. Tenfold increase in next 7 days sure sounds likely.

States are now closing borders. A friend that works with my wife just got a new job in Rhode Island. He's supposed to move up there today. Yesterday he was informed that when he arrives he'll have to go into a 14 day quarantine, but that right now all NY plates are being turned away at the R.I. border. Newport was always one of my favorite ports of call. I've heard that Fla. is enacting the same blockades for travelers from our Tri-state area and also from La. DK what enforcement is or will be like on the water, but since boats going north will travel through one or the other of these areas it doesn't look good.

Can't agree with that, because this whole thread IS political in nature, starting from its title.
And it seems to me that this is neither killing the forum, nor stopping people to post wrong bits of information whose only purpose is to support their own political preconceptions.
But thanks for your appreciation of experience, anyhow.

The title of this thread is political??? Is there a "Marine Industry" party somewhere I haven't heard of? Let me know. I might change my planned vote. We all hear the news all day long. We all have views about who's to blame for what and who's doing what wrong, and there are plenty of places we can discuss those views. But more important to us all is how this virus is affecting us, and in this case the "Us" is the Marine industry. That's the manufacturers, the crews, the owners down to the guy who rents a Silly Lilly skiff on the weekend to fish for snappers. Yes some news may relate to more than just the marine industry such as how and where the pandemic is progressing and how individual countries and municipalities are reacting. I think we all know when we are making a political statement no matter how much we may be able to rationalize or disguise it, and it's the mod's job to edit that impulse when we're not willing or able to.

We have a large summer home next to us owned by an out of towner in La. They have had a steady stream of students (no adults) there for about a week with a new group today. They are not doing social distancing, drinking during the day, and are going out at night. Very disrespectful of residents in the area that are trying to stay safe. What are their parents thinking! Time to close Florida borders, way too many out of state tags on the road. Difficult to shut the China Virus down with large numbers coming in. Just talked to their caretaker, he won't even come around or enter the house. The house cleaners come it after each group, ladies don't even know what their being exposed to.
