On Sunday I tried to explain exponential math..... 400 dead and doubling every 4 days. I was wrong, it's worse. Today it's 4 days later and we're at 1300. Unless something changes that means we're (more than) doubling every 3 days....

    3/22 400
    3/25 1200
    3/28 2400
    4/2 4800
    4/6 9600
    4/10 19,200
    4/14 38,400
    4/18 76,800

and so on and so forth ...... a few more lines and that becomes a VERY large number. Keep an eye on NOLA and Florida.

problem with smaller boats is that there is no room for more than a captain and mate. I ran a 70 Johnson for years, mostly charters for up to 6 guests, and a third crew wasn’t an option. Now on an 84, we have a third crew who makes things a lot easier even with 5 guests SR. Oh and yeah I m the captain and chef :)

Broward County issued an “Stay in Shelter” order, but no mention of boating.

Is there really a need to mention boating? That would be like saying except for home owners or apartment dwellers above the 10th floor. "Stay in shelter" means stay in shelter. I'm afraid that liveaboards are about to find out how small their boats really are. I wanted to live on a boat ever since I was a kid. Back in the 70's I went to a boat show in NY and saw a 26'er and thought I'd like to live on it. After a couple of year of working in the industry I realized that I couldn't live on anything less than 70'. Thankfully I could never afford one of those, and ended up in a nice house. As a helpful suggestion people up here have taken to walking a lot. It allows one to get outside, but stay solitary (No not along the strip or Los Olas any more than Times Sq. in NY, but on the back streets). My wife and I are also taking drives to nowhere like along our coastline. Unfortunately the layout of So. Fl. isn't real conducive to that, but maybe a drive out towards the Glades. Good luck and stay safe. Remember that the person's life you save may be your best friend or someone you love.

Not sure if you can do that drive to the Glades, unless you tell the authorities it is for shopping groceries.
As for boating, Coconuts Waterfront Restaurant is open for Takeout food, Takeout, or grocery shopping is also one of the exceptions, one could use a boat, instead of a car to get food, not sure yet.

Not looking for a loophole, but boating is very much Social Isolation, unless you go to a sandbar and mingle with 300 other folks..
Got 2 boats behind my house, would go nuts if I can’t go for a solo ride, or with my dog occasionally.

I'll still be boating. My daily evening boat rides are what is keeping me sane.

Remember it well. Maybe when this is all over. In the mean time we've all become so accustomed to having destinations for all of our outings, mostly restaurants or maybe places like the Bahamas. Now may be a good time to relearn how to appreciate the getting there part as we make our homes the destination as well as the starting points. When I had my tour boat in Lauderdale many times we'd take our guest for a cruise out Pt. Everglades, do a little snorkeling on the reefs, then come in Hillsborough for a loop of the island or up the New River, across the canal by Pipewelders to the Dania cutoff canal and back on the ICW. Of course a stop at Tug Boat Annie's was good but a box lunch would do just as well.

I'm pretty sure that nobody will object if (in the unlikely event you get stopped) you explain that it's a no-destination drive. It's not Marshall Law, just a formal request to act smart.

Yup it's been the ''stay at home rule '' for a week or so here. Only can go out for food, medical stuff, exercise-drive to the park, drive to work.
Right, here in New Jersey and the Philadelphia area, I've been driving around mostly solo or with my son to go for a ride, check out my tiny office/garage for mail. Drive to the park for a hike etc. I will be driving solo or with my son at times to my boat to work on it with lots of space around us. I have a load of marine materials in stock that I finally can put to use so no need to shop. They are not stopping anyone that I can see. I did here police have put more effort and staff into the night patrol, from 8pm -5am they will stop you and write you up. They don't want anyone out then.

When I do food shop, or Hardware store shop ,etc. I had three N95 masks on the boat which I now use in the stores and I have a box of Nitrile gloves which I also wear in the store or when I use the ATM etc. Oh , I also have a tub of Clorox disinfectant wipes in the truck to use also...
I keep the mask, hang it in the house and spray it with Lysol and let it dry before use. That's been working fine so far. I hope it kills the Virus. I would think it would. ??

Nobody should go into a store or come close to anyone without wearing an N-95 mask. This is for YOUR protection as well as for those you encounter. I know there are shortages of them right now, but that should ease within the next week as 3-M and others ramp up production (something that should have started last December).

That is highly impractical for 330M citizens and will not happen.

They've been doing it in the far east ever since SARS. Dying or being on a respirator is even less practical. No way will I go near people without wearing my mask.

That is true, but you can always rig up a pair of your favorite Fruit of the Loom's over your nose and mouth to do the job!

And if I had no other choice I would before I'd expose myself or others unprotected. When I had to escort my wife to CityMD a couple of weeks back due to a severe cough and high fever they would only give masks to those with symptoms. I looked at all those sick people and bundled my handkerchief over my mouth and nose. Thankfully she only had a cold, but it took 5 very scared days to get the results

This bug isn’t airborne. No droplets with the virus will affect you unless you are within a few feet of a sick person who coughs or sneezes.

and if someone coughs or sneezes and droplets get to you chances are that mask isn’t going to help unless you quickly disinfect your clothes
