Maybe so, in theory..In reality, after 30 Bahamas trips, half of them with foreign folks, I always had to drive down to the CBP office in Port Everglades with my foreign pax and show paperwork and passports, etc.
Waste of time, but the bureaucrats have no clue.
(Once docked are at private marina, I could let go all my smuggled pax, Uber them off, then call the CBP and report arrival with only the husband/wife team, both US Citizens. OK, you are cleared, God Bless)

    30 trips when???

Actually before the Roam app, any pax not signed up for the Local Boater Option has to go to immigration whether US or foreign

since the Roam app was launched about 2 years ago, US citizen not signed up for LBO no longer have to go. I don’t think I have come back with non US pax but I assume they still have to go, but only them.

Last 21 years. (Pleasure, not charters)
We only had to see the authorities if we had foreign pax or crew.
Yes, Local Boaters, Custom Sticker, etc.

Well as I said things have changed with the Roam app. Even before with the old clunky float plan system non LBOs has to go to immigration. Roam did away with that. Sometimes they don’t even do a FaceTime session, sometimes they do.

that Roam app works real well. Don’t even have to type pax data. Just a scan of the passport and all the fields are filled. At least government IT tech is great now :)

Well, we're all in bed reading now. We're reading 880 pages of the act the Senate is voting on.

This is true. I clear many times with the Roam app and a U.S. citizen that's not a local boater (once or twice) and central americans. They do a quick video chat with the U.S. citizen and give him a local boater number right there. Then tell me the Central Americans need to see them within 24 hours, the Americans including the Capt. do not need to go. I end up driving them anyways because they don't have a car at the marina.

What's the local boater number about/for? Proof of home address?

It s quick back ground check. In the past you had to make an appointment and go in person but now you can get it while clearing in with the app.

Just to inject some dark humor into a very serious situation:

There are a couple of good things about the Corona virus.

Wives are no longer complaining about their husbands always wanting to go fishing. "Go, have fun, stay out all night if you’d like, in fact maybe you’d like to take that multi-day fishing trip you’ve always dreamt about."

And they’re not worried about him messing around when he says he out fishing. A fish is the only living creature who will come within 6 feet of him, and how much wrong can you do wearing an N-95 mask.

Best of all for some “Not tonight dear” has turned into “Not till there’s a cure and a vaccine dear”.

I think you may be misinterpreting the requirements.
In the past, US Citizens only had to report in person if they didn't have a Local Boaters number.
Now, with the ROAM app, neither US nor Canadians need to report in person.
Any other foreign citizens have always, and continue to be required to report in person.

I often come into the US with a mixture of nationalities. US and Canadian report via the ROAM app. Anyone else gets in a car and goes to the office with their passports. In the past I have always accompanied the foreign nationals just to make sure there weren't any issues, but this week I decided that trip was an unnecessary risk for me, so stayed aboard while they all presented.

Welcome home, Ken. Too bad we can't have a YF raft-up. Been a real long time no see. Great posts - much appreciated.

Don’t think so, seems we are in agreement.
Always had the Local Boater card and Custom sticker. (Except for boats under 30’)
Been only once to the Bahamas with the new app, and it was a breeze.
Would like to go more often, but lacking crew, wife not so keen on crossing the G/S and most of my buddies are working stiffs still. (I retired early)
Did a solo trip to Bimini but found it rather boring, guess I am a people person.
(I invited the Swedish Bikini Team for an all expenses paid Odin trip to the Bahamas but they have not responded yet, still waiting.)

As NYCAP said, it's a background check but had to make an appointment and see a Customs agent in person. Now on the ROAM app, they see a video call/interview as the same as doing the interview with an agent in person. So U.S. and Canadians can get the local boater number when you first check in on the ROAM app. and does away with the requirement that they have to come in, in person. In my situation, I've had 2 mates and they got their local boater number when we checked in. However, the owners on one boat I run to the Bahamas several times a year are from Central America, so I always drive them to make sure they get there easily etc. and it gives the mate a chance to rinse/chamois the boat while I'm gone. :D

They don't have a Bikini Team, only the Ski team. Send a message to them and I'm sure you will have luck..Lol. You just have to supply the Florida ski suit which would be the Bikini for them to sport aboard Ole Odin!

Well I called my yard yesterday and they are able to remain open, that includes fuel dock. Because the local fire/police boat is berthed there and they are dredging the Cape May canal - Lewes/Cape May ferry terminal etc. they are using the yard as ''home base'' for the boats and workers etc. So I am able to work on my boat and should be able to be launched latter on this spring. I will be keeping much more than a 6 foot space from others which is they way it always seems to be when the tools and paint brushes come out, everyone leaves....I never have help. Grrr...

Welllllllllll, it's only a 66' MY and we only have a Captain and mate. But we do have 6 guests on board and the trips are always 10-14 days and around 700 NM's, a lot of anchoring, a lot of cooking, a lot of putting the tender in and out of the water. So we're both exhausted when we get back. But me facilitating getting the guests OFF of the boat right after we clear customs enables the mate to rinse and chamois the exterior and get done without the guests outside, and in the way. When we get back, the outside is all wet everywhere and he's still working, so they stay inside. Then when he's finished, he can go home. I help as much as I can throughout the trip and at the end there are plenty of things that I need to do to facilitate getting done, so we can both go home. Usually we run all of the way back from Compass Cay to Fort Lauderdale (205 NM) or at the very least Nassau (165nm), so it's a minimum of 7-8 hours dock to dock...….

When I read post 316 I thought 'He's never met one particular mate I had ONCE'. Then I read post 317 and realized you have met him or his brethren. lol.
