Got a new fridge today, damage to door, getting attitude.

    Got the new fridge Isotherm 49 liter fridge today, great looking and very promising performance, but like
    A mail-order bride it was damaged goods:
    A slight dent, indentation or delimitation, whatever on the door.
    Called West Marine, whom I bought it from. They said, call the maker, I called
    Webasto, they said to call the trucking company.
    No, there was no damage to the packing, it was very well packed and delivered on a
    Double pallet.
    Webasto gave me attitude, told me I should fix it if they gave me a new front panel.
    Don’t think so, not my job mon.
    Will have to drive up there and do a face to face, or man to man talk.
    Bad customer service to tick of the buyer on the first call..

    Just your photo is enough to understand that the problem can't have anything to see with transport, and is just down to lack of production QC.
    That panel should have never left the factory.
    Good luck.

    PS: couldn't you offer them to send back the whole door if they send you a new one?
    I understand why you don't want to bother with the panel replacement, but removing and reinstalling the whole door shouldn't be a big deal...
    Just a thought!

    Yeah, I offered to settle for a new door, but no, the person on the phone was not understanding :confused:

    Whatever, I am a retired bush pilot with an axe to grind, and lots of time on my hands for anybody trying to show stuff up my tail pipe.
    This company is in Pompano, 20 mins drive from my lair and happy to go there and introduce myself.
    (Wife just got home, she said well, you may not see that dent when the fridge is installed, no big deal.. True, but why should I give in when they give attitude?
    Wrong people in the wrong position, jeez. :rolleyes::mad:)

    Yeah, flew Bush in Alaska a few years, small and big planes, then I discovered sunshine, palm tree and sailboats in the Virgin Islands 1984, shaved my beard, threw away my leather jacket and took up sailing. Easy life compared to icing, beach landings and dirt strips in the middle of nowhere and never looked back.
    Need to confront some “Customer Service” guy at the fridge place however, just to get the adrenaline up to 10% of what it was 35 years ago in Bush Alaska. :cool:

    Yep, having once landed in Chena Hot Springs in February, I know first hand that it can be an interesting experience.
    And as you probably know, there's a proper landing strip, up there.
    I don't dare thinking of other much more extreme environments.

    I would just return it and get your money back and get a different brand. At the very least plug it in and see how long it takes to get a dozen beers cold, many of those fridges take forever to get cold from room temperature. I haven't had any good luck with Webasto.

    Ordered the fridge online from West Marine Pro, truck delivery from North Caroline. Good price, but like a mail order bride, damaged goods.
    It so happens that the headquarters are in Pompano, 20 mins North of me, I can always drive the darn fridge up there and have them fix it or replace it, but they could also come down here and give me a **** new fridge with no damage. Why is it my problem that their quality control ain’t working?
    Hence this thread, to went and get moral support.

    Aye, should have, but being a nice guy it did not cross my mind to record no conversation, darn obvious case: Give me a new fridge, or fix the damaged one..jeez..o_O

    Ah, he will see the light tomorrow when he gets the pictures on his email, don’t really see a big problem, but again, I can drive up there with the fridge and ask somebody to do their job. Not asking for a favor, but I am speechless
    For having to insist on getting this problem solved..Jeez. :confused:

    I would return it. Only circumstance I'd do different is if it won't be seen, I'd keep it for a 20% discount. I'm just not going to fool around with a new item.

    Your beef really is with the retailer (West Marine), they should handle it, they should take it in return. I'd drive it to the one on Marina Mile and walk it right in the front door with the receipt.

    They don’t sell this fridge in the stores, only Norcold, which does not fit, hence the Isotherm had to be ordered.
    Anyways, much drama about nothing, I was exited yesterday due to strong drinks, calm now :cool:
    The Indel Webasto folks are only 4.4 miles from my house, they said to stop by there for a 10 minute fix, then they changed it due to the corona virus, no strangers in the building, but they will give me a new panel and with a bit of luck I could pop the old out and the new one on.

    As for taking it to the store for a 20% discount, yeah, one option but will try the fix this afternoon, the dent will always annoy me if not repaired.

    Special order merchandise is seldom returnable to the retailer. Looks like an easy enough fix though if you can get those border pieces off without bending them. That looks like the biggest problem I would recommend having 2 people putting on the panel so you can line up all 4 corners. Looks like you'll only get one shot. Once that tape sticks you won't get the new panel off without bending it.

    Hi NYCAP123, Long time, no see.
    The fridge was fixed during a 5 minute surgery and all is well.
    Now in the middle of installation, have to widen the opening by an inch and
    used a hacksaw blade on the fiberglass yesterday, great exercise as I was a
    ball of sweat after an hour. (Not running AC because of the dust)
    Also upgrading galley with new faucet and new sink drain, keeps me busy and out of the bars, all good. :cool:

    How are you doing my friend? Yes, after 30 years of learning new things every day in this business and passing on what I'd learned I felt like I didn't have much to contribute after I retired. I'd occasionally look in though and the other night realized that not everybody is running with the latest and greatest boats and equipment. So maybe there are a few contributions I can still make like suggesting that when people cut fiberglass they wear long sleeves, dust masks and coat exposed skin with petroleum jelly. The fiberglass particles will adhere to the jelly where it can be wiped away rather than getting embedded in the pores of your skin and itching for the next week.:cool:

    Thx for the advise gentlemen, but in this case I am only using hand tools, no fan in the cabin and the AC is off, hence there is no dust flying around: Slowly cutting with a hacksaw blade the dust falls straight down where I have a vacuum cleaner hose suck it up. No dust on arms, eyes, in nose, etc.

    The downside is very slow going, but I have lots of time.
    (I could never be a boat builder, it would take me 3 years to build a canoe.) :cool:
