    It's as if every single move he made was the exact opposite of what he should have done. Don't know whether to cringe or take a bat to the guy at the helm.

    Does it look to you as he may have lost his starboard engine? Almost impossible to back particularly in that tiny space - neutral and all hands on deck was the answer?

    Blasting forward into other boats certainly wasn’t the answer... anything would have been better

    He'd have been better off simply shutting both engines down and hand lining it in.
    Makes me think the " captain" was either a super novice or something was really wrong with the boat or controls.

    In the beginning of the video there is a person that looks like he is operating an outside bridge helm, slamming the gear shift back? Am I delusional? How the heck dies he see the bow from that operating position? Still think he had an engine go down from the action or nonaction of the vessel

    Good eye. Something was not right about the way the boat was reacting, plus operating from aft bridge station.
    Had a gear cable come loose from a gear while in forward coming into a marina and went 4 boards deep into a dock, lucky no boat was there. Sounded like I was going thru a pine forest. lol
    Stuff happens on boats!

    I am told this took place setting up for the Miami Yacht Show, and everyone was complaining about the current. Hard to imagine a current pushing you toward shore. I tend to agree with the lost stbd wheel when trying to back in next to the Azimut. But again, neutral is your friend here.

    He went from reverse (with a lot of RPM judging by the prop wash) to forward multiple times. At least once, the boat turned to port indicating power on the stbd engine. This was not a control or engine failure... it was a Operator failure.

    yeah there is current in that spot and that maybe why he got pinned there plus some wind pushing the bow off... still no excuse

    Does a boat like that ordinarily have bow thrusters?

    When I give docking lessons I tell people if you really are left with no place to go in close quarters use the gears to stop the boat’s momentum and then go into neutral. If making contact is inevitable, better to drift a short distance into it than drive into it under power.

    Nope. His stbd engine is fine. Right after the hard astern on the port (all the prop wash), you can see the boat go fwd-swinging to port (consistent with stbd going ahead).

    Absolute crappy boat handling. . .

    Why isn't that crew forward protecting other boats, rather than their own from the cockpit?
