    Had a damper actuator fail a couple of weeks ago so since we were about to do the annual fire inspection I called the company I use (a well known outfit in FTL) and told them get a new one and install at the same time. Seems pretty straightforward...

    But no... a week later I get a call saying “we can get you the actuator but we can’t install it. You need a marine electrician to connect it”. The estimate to supply the actuator was 3 times the price I paid On line from Blackhawk supply... I know everybody’s got to make a living!

    so... these guys can handle electrical connections to the fire bottles, shutdowns etc but not connect two color coded wires to the 24v system....

    amazing what boat owners have to put up with.

    That portion of the job probably falls into some insurance gray area of electrical/mechanical/fire protection. The insurance provider is most likely driving that decision.

    Well if a fire contractor is allow to work on the shut down box which control the dampers, wth can’t they connect the actuator! Too many lawyers in this world...

    I know on land side with the unions, there are lines and boundaries everywhere.
    As far as yacht owners insurance companies driving this, their paranoia may be tense but I do doubt they are the issue here.

    The company you called, for some reason, did not want to come out.
    They may have crossed a simple wire in the past and fried some stuff and ate it.
    Or no, on site insurance themselves for electrical work.

    Not to rub it in but it has to be said, I'm sorry my friend but you can count on me;
    The materials and work expected should have been discussed in detail and a work order written up.
    These issues may have been avoided the first day.

    I had the same issue......I'm guess the company you used was named after the County in which it is located? I use Norman with Marine Fire...…….I had that same issue with them, and installed the unit myself in like 15 minutes.....they sent the Seafire bottle off because it was low. It came back with a different plug and a pigtail with 2 wires for the other side of the plug. Then they told me I needed to get an electrician to connect the 2 wires on the plug, when the only reason it had a different plug was because of their service. LOLOLOL
