    Can you replace the wood underneath and put the skin back on so you have minimal topside sanding and painting?

    Hey Ralph, you're as meticulous as I. Some are hard to fix but sooner or later you will be able to get into them to fix.

    5 years later I have to admit, I have a returning oil leak.
    Behind the 12V71 H/E, dual belt PTO to the alternator, Freaking PTO seal leaking again.
    All else good.
    I'll have to live with it a while, have to many projects on the list.
    It's ugly to me but the diaper is about 6 months old, 3" spot dark in engine tray. ZERO in the bilge.
    All else clean.
    I'll get to it next fall when I can mess with the coolant again.

    Doing pretty good. Something reached up and took a little bite out of one of my exhaust valves on my way to Highborne Cay this summer. I idled around the Exumas on 5 cylinders for a couple months dumping a little fuel oil in my pan each day. Had the best time with my girl. I had to keep pumping oil out and pumping fresh oil in every few days to keep the oil pressure above 15 psi. Got home and had the head redone. Funniest thing is, I have been running the fresh oil for a couple of months now and it is crystal clear like transmission oil. I asked around and the guys say by running fuel oil in the crankcase I have polished everything squeeky clean and no more black oil for awhile. Amazing but maybe a little risky?

    I lost a valve seat on a 671 and made nice white smoke from Lake Worth to Jax during a delivery.
    Dasm engine still made rpm on 5 lungs.
    Amazing but maybe a little risky? Do not dwell on this and forget about it quickly. You will sleep better.
    Keep up the oil labs on the mains.
