Can anyone help me find information about Jefferson Yachts (Trawlers) built in 1988. I am looking for any information that will tell me about the boat, layouts, spec and technical data etc. The Jefferson website is useless unless your looking for a new one. Thank you.
Jefferson 45 trawler, '85 I have a 1985 45 foot jefferson trawler. Had it for 10 years. What would you like to know about them?
Do you still own your Jefferson 45? I am looking at a Jefferson Viscount 50. The bow just looks low to me for ocean work. Otherwise the boat looks perfect for us. Are the Jeffersons seaworthy? We boat the PNW Canada to Alaska and are going to live aboard and cruise in retirement. Thank you for your opinion if you’re still there. Jeff
I had an '86 46' Jefferson aft cabin years ago. I liked the handling and economy [3206 CATS]. It tended to roll a little, but since it wasn't stabilized, that was to be expected. It also would hobby-horse in swells, but not uncomfortably. Quality was evident in the interior woodwork, but I did experience some delamination of the stringers [no rot, thankfully]. Overall, it was typical for a Taiwan-built boat from that era.
Thanks Captain was, stringer delamination does not sound good. What area of the boat did that occur in. Was it in the engine bed stringers ? Also did something happen to cause the delam? Were you ever in very bad conditions with her?
Engine room stringer [just one]; we drilled into it to determine no rot, no water. No casualty known to create the delam, which was discovered during pre-sale survey. New buyer took the boat and, as far as I know, still has her. Never took her out in really bad conditions, but did hit some rough weather underway. Sea keeping was as previously described.
Thanks again captainwjm. Just for clarification was your 46 called a hershine Jefferson? I looked at one of those and really liked everything about it except the engines (Cummins VT555) which it seems almost no one wants. That alone has me wondering.Otherwise it would suit my needs nicely.
We are waiting for the house to sell before we can buy so still have to wait and see. I’ll Let you know as soon as soon as I know. Glad to hear that you like the Monticello. .
My father recently passed and left me his 52' Jefferson. It has sat for a few years so it will need a lot of work. I'm fairly familiar with it, but I know I'll be pleased once it is back in running condition. They are good cruising yachts, he lived on his for 8 years. You'll be pleased.
Sorry for your loss. Where is your Jefferson located? What will it take to get her back in running condition? We are in virginia, headed for Hilton Head.
It is in Brunswick Georgia, Darien actuaully. I think it will take a decent amount of work, but I am having friends who have restored boats before look at it after I clean it up some. I pressure washed it this weekend, and put bleach in containers in the living quarters to help get rid of any mold I cannot see. I am going back in a week or so to wipe things down on the inside and finish the outside.
I’m also sorry to hear about your Dad. I know how that is too. Good luck restoring his boat, im sure it will be worth the effort. And thanks for telling me about how much he enjoyed it. As for my situation...our house sold in two days. I now also have an accepted offer on the Jefferson. As soon as we close the house deal we’ll do survey etc. can’t wait
I appreciate it, here are some pictures so far. It has been sitting six years but she's cleaning up nicely.
In the past he bought it in New York and it has been to the Bahamas. Cruising speed is around 10 to 12 knots from what I remember but it will do 20. Ours has twin Detroit diesels. I'm thinking of swapping out the drain lines from the pilot house with pvc, they were rubber and deteriorated, but so far that's the only surprise I've run into. The rest of the repairs are normal for a boat that's been sitting. Mod edit: Oversize image removed
Gltasin, You're new to YF so we don't expect you to know all the rules but one of them is to keep images below 640 pixels so our viewers on satnav don't chew up a bunch of bandwidth on a pic that is 3000 pixels or 30 megs. If you're going to upload pics, please be respectful of others viewing your thread. I have reduced the size of your first set of pics. Thanks!
I am about to make an offer on a '91 Jefferson Rivanna CPMY. Looks to be a great boat for our river cruising. Has CAT 3208's. Anyone familiar? I have been looking at 43 Hate MY's but have not found the right one and the configuration without a dinette does not suit Mama Tich.
