A couple of days ago a famous yachting website came up with an article about a new yacht that is currently being developed. I haven't seen a thread about it here yet, so I thought i'd make one.

The vessel that is being build is an REV. REV stands short for Research Expedition Vessel. The approach of the parties involved is that the ship will be used mostly for gathering knowledge about the oceans around the globe. I personally think this is a great concept.

If you have a look around the web, you can find the actual website connected with this amazing project!

Ps. I'm sorry for my english. I hope it is good enough

    Missed that one too.
The owner is Kjell Inge Røkke, a well know guy in Norway, self made millionaire. He went to Alaska and worked on fishing boats, did good and came back to Norway as a wealthy man and kept buying and investing,
Never met him but his private pilot is a buddy of mine.
A 182 meter yacht seems excessive, but what do I know.

I may think there are enough research vessels already proven and collecting dust. Operating at less cost (boat already paid for) and not such luxury staterooms.
Naw, a business expense that will stay in the red,,, forever.

    WOW. Great pictures.
It is amazing what goes into building a ship this size and how it's done.

An engineer friend involved with this build told me that Rev will have its technical launch on the 18th of this month and then undergo outfitting so we should see pictures of her in the water very soon.

I still cannot believe this vessel is being built. Quite something to see as it has been growing in construction.

Rev has finished being painted a dark Blue color and the scaffolding and shrink enclosure removed. She should be in the water very soon so we'll see some photos of her shortly. She was scheduled to splash on the 18th but it looks like this week for her technical launch so stay tuned...

REV is in the floating dry dock and is launching. Paint and coatings are being carried out by Den breejen yacht refinishing NL and what had looked like a dark Blue seems to be a dark anthracite Grey that shifts with varying light and angles.
