He bought a Marine Max boat. Why doesn't he take it to them to be fixed?

He did not. He bought it from a private seller

I didn't say he bought it from Marine Max. I said he bought a Marine Max boat, one sold in the US only by them, one with warranty service provided by only them. As painful as it sounds, I'd still think they'd be the ones most likely to figure it out.

There going to figure out by learning the boat at $100 and hour.

A few years ago a neighbor of mine bought a 59 Marquis thru MM. Soon realized the sounder was only working intermittently... MM send two guys, three times, few hours plus travel each time with no luck. Took me 20’ to notice the xducer cable was laying on top and in direct contact with a air handler motor. Secured it away from the motor as it should have been and problem solved

Just one of many horror stories.

Was able to fix the AP. The connectors was loose. Used forceps and camera through the lighter hole. Thanks for the many ideas. Again, I don't understand this industry. When I used connectors in my industry they had to be designed to withstand the shock and vibrations expected in normal use. Not sure how a connector comes out by itself if it was designed correctly?

Glad you got it. While indeed there are a number of issues with the industry when it comes to design, access, maintenance and quality, do not use Az-mutt as an representative example of the industry

Those SeaTalk semi flat connects usually stay in pretty well if installed correctly. Strain relief is the #1 issue.
Lack of dips in the wires is #2 issue. Install techs these days just bundle and run.

No, it's not aerospace and should not be compared to it. This is recreational money. A level of quality and expense way different than in the 747 or lunar lander.

I agree that it is not aerospace, but the connectors must be chosen for their application. There are many cheap connectors that will work in this environment.

Your also looking at a 15+ year old, cheap & DIY design.
If it helps you feel better, That connect is no longer used.

Maybe the industry is slowly changing. Doesn't help my friend.
Spoke toRaymarine and their newer models no longer are rear mount.
Have to agree with you on the Az-mut. Very poorly constructed for a nice looking boat. Makes it an impossible job for people in the industry. My friend doesn't mind paying someone the hourly rate to fix things. He does mind paying them the hourly rate to figure out how to get to the device to do the repair due to Azimut poor design control. It reminds me of an old car (don't remember the model) where it was over $400 to replace a $.50 tail light due to needing to remove the bumper to get to it.

Well, You got a taste of da Mut and won this time with all your fingers.
Sorry more Mut owners did not chime in.
Some of us may not be in luv with Azimuts:rolleyes::rolleyes: but we are here to always try to help:cool::cool:, or at least ensure your wearing safety googles when operating your recommended chain saw.:D:D
Please put up with my crappy humor.

Look forward to all new coming tales. Open a new thread on anything and send in lots of pictures (correct sized).
Disk space is cheap, boat stories live forever on Carls server.

    Ralph,
I appreciate your humor and experience. This is what helped me keep going to get this fixed. Again, not my boat. Just trying to help a friend get his boat ready for another trip. Without the correct drawings, the camera really is a necessity. We did end up making an access panel for ease of future repairs.
As to schematics, there are terminal blocks and fuses in two closets (behind the wood panels). Is there anyway of getting a wiring diagram? The manual included with the boat doesn't even show the fuse box location.

You will be making your own diagrams.
I recall one question I thought was on a Mut looking for a (Windlass?) breaker.
Was in its own breaker box, in the shadows, next to a standard multi box behind one of those panels.

Somebody is going to take ships ETO responsibility and start tracing this stuff down. Getting close and personal with this ship. Protoscopes, cameras, notebooks, scanner or whiteboard notes on everything you find behind every lil panel you can find.

When I started managing boats, it used to be fun spending a quiet weekend with pots of coffee, learning about a new boat. Then, it was just leagle pads and different colored pens.
When the boats started getting larger and more complicated, I started pouring a lil Kahlua in the coffee, then just went to hooch.

    #1 question I would ask my self;
Self, Why the heck did they do this,,, this way???

    This mostly went un-answered.
That's when the rum came out to keep my head from spinning. :D:D:D

Honestly, I'm just the last red neck swab in North East Florida.
Just tried to retire again. Went back to hooch.

The panel will come out. I am not familiar with that panel, but usually they are simply velcro'd in or screwed. There is access, you just have to find it.

Again, as everyone else has iterated. Talk to the dealer techs, they will know a lot of things that you're seeking.

The flybridge does not have an access panel on this boat. Looks like all of the instruments were mounted to the flybridge prior to it being installed on the boat. Was able to see the problem (connector not fully inserted) with a camera after I removed the cigarette lighter mount. This problem is now fixed. Ended up added an access panel so any further problems are easy to access.
Many have iterated to talk to dealer techs, and others have said good luck with that. My friend called more than one different Marine Max locations and they didn't even call him back!

On your model, most likely there is an electronic that is removable from the outside. You first remove that, then reach in and remove the hardware holding the dash in place.

Next time you have the protoscope in there, look down to the deck. Just had a shiver go down my back,,, Thru the headliner from below?????

Also; is there a bubble compass on the fly bridge dash? Their usually top mounted.

Best thing is you fixed your problem. Just keep your eyes open for the same model Mut and ask that owner.
Please let us all know when you find out.
