Welland Canal Notice to delivery Captains Just a few things to remember If you yacht has a safe make sure you have combination If your children are traveling with you make sure you have a letter from your spouse Make sure you report any cash over ten thousand dollars Guns do not want to talk about just don't bring them A lot of strange things this year
Great advice Rodger. I once saw charterer's held up in Panama because they didn't have the combination to the safe. Charter company couldn't reach owner who then didn't have it with him.
I saw that Burger in St. Michaels Maryland just a couple weeks ago. That is one nice looking, well kept boat, I could not find any info about her on the net tho, only her predecessors.
Nice inside? Run well? Details?? Come on, pretty ship give us some poop. I luv these ole ships and you took her up? Bet ole original Detroit power also? Bet a few old farts would luv some details also.
Someone is taking Bella Vita all the way to Lake Michigan. At 250', that has to be one of the biggest yachts to travel that far into the Great Lakes system in a while. Considering the pilot requirements, it's costing a fortune.
Yes as she is foreign flagged she needs pilot for the St Lawrence River and Montreal section of Seaway and Welland Canal and lake pilots as far as Port Huron. Cost is approx $ 35,000 each way. American yachts only need St Lawrence River pilots and canal pilots no Lake Pilots Any yacht greater than 35 Meters needs pilots
Another quick trip up the canal today on a new 80' Viking S/F She had to come St Lawrence River through Montreal as she was to high for the Erie Canal system, which adds about 1600 miles to the trip.
That's interesting and actually about half of what I was imagining it might cost, although it's clearly not cheap. I didn't realize they do not need a pilot to sail from Port Huron and beyond. I thought a pilot was needed for any navigation anywhere in the Great Lakes system (for foreign flagged, 35M+).
Is the pilot cost variable based on length? Northern Star, now Bella Vita, was sold in 2017. The ask was 83 million euros although I don't know what she actually sold for. She charters for 650,000 USD a week + expenses so against these numbers a 35,000 fee is kind of inconsequential. But for a smaller boat of say 35-40M it would be an important expense.
