Has everyone seen the video of Chancellorville vs Udaloy?

    And the stills?

So my fellow salty brethren, what COLREGS violated? (test question!! LOL) and according to USN, Chancellorville was conducting help ops. . .

If you get it right, I'll buy the grog!!

Clearly an overtaking situation, the Russian should have stayed clear which I am sure they will claim they did. Just.

I think upon spotting a Russian naval vessel, US Navy crews should get some rotten tomatoes and eggs at the rail ready to launch.

    -1 Grog for me.
Yep, Rule 13 for sure; pretty sure he was 22.5 degrees abaft (Oh noooooo! Nautical terminology;):cool:) when this started. . .and Rule 18 if USN RIAM because of flight ops.

Apparently Russia wants to replicate the Soviet Navy's actions of the 60's and 70's and 80's with bumper tag. For a history lesson, check out the video of USS Caron & Yorktown in 1988 in the Black Sea.

Just because some of us have senioritis, it doesn't preclude us from learning new skill-sets. Like, you know, like some of at least progressed from DOS 3.1 to Windows 95. . . LOL :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I peaked at window's VISTA, though!!

Just updated my wheelhouse box to win 10 from XP. No C-Map reader drivers for win10.
My data box still XP. No Win10 drivers for the raid5 controller.
Still a long ways from 4-channel Concurrent CPM and Rampage memory cards.

Has anyone seen the video of a couple of grown men acting like teenagers, measuring the length of their private parts under the bleachers?
The US (and others) have been 'rattling sabers' at our enemies for several centuries now, without much positive to show for it. Don't you think it is about time we tried something more constructive than risking the lives of so many and the ships in a p*ssing match?

    Time to grow up children!

Like what? Let the Chinese build islands on reefs that don’t even belong to them? Like letting the Russian play bully unchallenged? Like sending pallets of cash to Teheran under cover of darkness to finance their terrorism attacks against commercial ships? Yeah... that works

Nothing makes a bully seem small and ineffective than refusing to play his game. You are saying it is cool in your opinion putting all those American and Russian lives at risk are worth a pissing match that proves absolutely nothing?
Do you drive YOUR boat like that? I sure hope not. Do you drive your car like that? Is that how you want your kids to interact with other people?
Had it been I captain of the US vessel (and I was once), I would have made a significant and very visible course change many miles before any incident could have occurred. What the heck, it's just fuel the public's taxes pay for and a tiny drop in that bucket, to boot.
Considering the exceptional number of civilian/US military vessel collisions over the last few years, I for one, wouldn't be throwing my trust in the commander of a US Navy ship, as either his crew or the idiot Russian who probably had no idea the danger he was actually putting his ship and crew in. lol

I have no desire to get into the middle of any of this, but wasn't the US vessel recovering aircraft? Would it be safe for the pilots if the ship turned to avoid?

You are right, but again timely and definitive action could have avoided the whole incident. If there had been a collision, how do you think that would have affected aircraft recovery operations?

What you don’t seem to understand is that had the US vessel changed course the Russian would have followed. They clearly noticed the US vessel was engaged in recovery ops and came in for a close pass

You can bet the US skipper was on the bridge ready to take action to avoid a collision, this has nothing to do with inexperienced crew screwing up with commercial traffic

UMMMMM The Russian vessel had right of way. It's the US Navy showing their USS Mccain and fitzgerald navigational prowess once again. AND, the US Navy did not do everything they could to avoid a collision either. They should have taken action 1/2 a mile sooner or more.

I tend to agree with this argument. If as offered , the us ships had the obligation/ability to veer, so did the Russian? The wake seems to indicate this was a deliberate provocation.
