    Then they should know of the Alura 30 issue. Trick is, did Marlow keep anybody or any support documentation from the old companies?

    Before you spend money on a survey etc. Can't you get more info from the current owner/others on this vibration issue. You sound like you are ready to take the plunge.

    Why would you spend a couple of thousand dollars surveying a boat you know has an issue?

    the seller needs to address the issue before survey unless the asking price reflects the problem and you re willing to live with it. It could be the prop tips being too close, it could be a bent shaft, it could be a misaligned strut or shaft log, it could be flimsy mounts or engine beds, bottom line it will likely costly.

    Mainships are not exactly known for good quality control...

    Because the issue isn't fixable generally. It's generally propeller to blade tip issue. Just like Lazzara's will cavitate the props if you get on plane too quickly. Most Mainship owners run them around hull speed and tend to love the boats for some reason or another, despite their design shortcomings. Well, for a faster trawler they are a very low maintenance boat, that has good walkways and such to get lines, etc.

    Same with Luhrs owners. I have a Luhrs owner that bought his boat new in 2007. It's wet and doesn't ride great and we've already re-cored the entire front deck, the tower floor is soft and part of the cockpit is starting. Despite all this he LOVES that boat. Why, I have no clue.

    On the 84 i run, i add power 100rpm at a time with a 3 to 4 second pause. I have never had cavitation. The boat pops on plane at 1500 very quickly. Accelerating faster just stresses the boat and spills drinks :)

    Yes, but some Lazzara's are much worse than others. The 68' MY for example. The Mainship is kind of the same way and the owners work around it. LOL

    To Pascal, Do you have a Mainship 34 Pilot? If so do you know what the prop diameter and pitch are? I had a Grand Banks 42MY and we ran it at 7.5 to 8.5 knots. Going slow is a pleasure and not a problem. I would expect to run this boat at 10 to 12 knots. I am trying to find out if anyone has re-proped one of these and if so what they used, number of blades, diameter and pitch, and if this helped the vibration issue? I would like to be able to go WOT occasionally if I have a reason to do so without shaking the boat or the crew apart.

    10 to 12 knots is the worst speed for pretty much anybody as you not on plane and burning 3 times the fuel that would at hull speed for very little extra speed

    This, you are better off doing a hull speed of 7.5 knots and then mixing it up with x amount of time at cruise speed to achieve your 10 or 12 knot average.
