    The story is the Los Olas bridge is broken and it may take 2-3 weeks to fix it.

    Still trying to figure this out but my understanding is that it's just the ability to open the bridge that is a problem. That means anyone over 31' has problems and could impact some boats headed to the Miami show but I would think very few. For those living here, might have to take the long way around for a couple of weeks.

    Humm, Is there another news lead you kids are looking at?

    Also, is vert clearance at 24 or 31 feet?
    I found 24' here;

    Ah, but could the charts and the bridge have different numbers? What craziness. The bridge markings say 31'. I've never measured but it's more than 24' so I choose to go with 31'.

    At this point there has been no official statement from the FL dept. of transportation but rather a posting from 7 seas marine on Ft Lauderdale yacht crew for local mariners notices that they were told by the bridge tender etc. etc. otherwise known as scuttlebutt until an official statement is released concerning this. The long way around as OB referred to is a major PIA if true.

    A Las Olas bridge closure wont effect vessels going south from the New River. Still much sabre rattling going back and forth on social media but no conformation from the FL. Dept. of Transportation nor anyone from the city of Ft Laud or a media outlet that's respected for accurate information.

    Our chief engineer can see the bridge from his house as well as hear radio communications and said no openings taking place but no real information being shared either. A few workers on it, but not a large number this morning. The Las Olas Bridge and the Davie Boulevard Bridge are not hydraulic but work with mechanical lift systems. Remember the Broad Causeway Bridge that fell on Rockstar? These three bridges were all built about the same time, 1958-1960.

    I'd guess they don't really know yet how long it will take, what parts they might need, how long to get them. It's an inconvenience but really on the scale of problems we could all have, relatively minor. Certainly nothing like the Illinois River locks closing for the summer and there's no alternative route.

    Agreed, Apparently the state of FL. has been inspecting the bridges in Broward last week and have found some deficiencies in several. I think that your spot on with your comment for the sourcing of spares needed and just how long and for what hours a closure would take place when repairs are carried out. It would take some major findings to instantly and without notice close a busy bridge like this for three weeks or even one week.

    We just went under it, not the draw span, on our way to play tennis. We know no more than we did before.

    People can't even agree on it's vertical clearance, you really expect accurate estimates on a closure? lol
