I am noticing more and more Mega yachts are locating tables, loungers and even jacuzzis at the Bow. I can understand the wish to utilize all available space, but don't you lose all your privacy being right in front of the bridge. Does the bridge have to be attended even when you are at anchor. Or can the crew monitor from elsewhere. Also if you utilize the bow area. Where is the crew supposed to go to take a break and get a breath of fresh air ??
Not necessarily. When you're moored Med style backed up to a sea wall for example, there's more privacy on the bow than some of the other outdoor deck space.
This trend started with European boats so I think the need for privacy in the typical sardine can med mooring with pedestrian ogling from quays situation was one of the reasons... Plenty of areas on boats for guest (or crew) privacy incl upper decks, swim platforms etc.
You're not really using the bow seating much when underway unless at slow speeds, generally there is too much wind up there and movement when underway. Generally it's used at the dock or anchored. Many of the bow seating arrangements will also have a removable sun shade or sun sail that blocks and the sun and such. The yachts I've seen them on, most don't have a lower helm and when the boat is docked or anchored generally nobody is sitting at the flybridge helm looking at the bow. If you're this worried about privacy from your crew. You're either too private or hired the wrong crew.
The bow seating simply gives the boat an additional outdoor living space, so another place for guests, crew, and anyone else who happens along. Great addition. As to privacy from crew or for crew, well we're definitely not traditional but there's no difference between our crew and anyone else on our boat. We intermingle freely and if anyone wants to get away, space to do it. A builder doesn't have bow seating and they're just wasting the space and opportunity. I also missed the connection between bow seating and attending the bridge. Are you saying the crew has to monitor the guests and owner at all times or something? And back to the privacy thing a moment, you're basically living with your crew while on board. For many, that's months at a time. Privacy? If I wouldn't like to share a house with someone then I wouldn't want them on the crew. Our crew has seen us naked thousands of times and we've seen most of them topless and many naked. I think privacy concerns are long gone. Sorry, we threw formality out with the trash. Even when we're home, crew is regularly around our house and we consider their families friends as well. Now I know chartering is a different world, but when we chartered we mingled with crew as well. What size boat are you talking about that has you concerned longpig? Oh, and don't like jacuzzi at bow. Just increases draining and filling.
No, what I meant is if you're underway the people on the bow seating or bow sunpads are directly in the Captains view as the Captain is looking forward while underway. At the dock, the Captain isn't going to be sitting at the helm seat staring forward and people rarely sit at the FB helm seat when the boat isn't moving. Some boats, the bow seating is hidden from the main level due to design. Like the 90' Hatteras MY, the forward window is too high (a few feet above your head) to see anything on the boat from it from the galley that is behind it. So the only place anyone could be looking at people on the bow seating would be from the FB seating all of the way forward or the helm on the flybridge. Yes there can be times where you need to monitor the people on the bow seating, like if you're crossing a boat wake and they have stuff up there, or don't want them to get spray you might need to slow down so the bow rises. etc.
No, I was addressing longpig's question. Guess he was talking about underway but that's not when we use bow seating.
The OP was here over a year ago. Don't know if he's still around. This thread was resurrected a few days ago due to a first time poster who embedded an Anchor Text/Hyperlink into his reply to my post. Carl has since removed the post.
I’ve found that the forward seating does not get used all that much. To much wind underway and the same problem at anchor many times,
What concerns me is when I am in the jacuzzi and my page 3 booby babe is just about to take her top off when she turns around and sees everyone in the bridge learing at her. That's when I usually wake up, so I don't know how it turns out. But you get the gist. Most woman I've asked have said "Sundeck, maybe. Up front, Hell No.!" They're funny like that.
He's dreaming about the wrong type of women.. Needs to improve his inner self and have better dreams. Keep dreaming; let those puppies free, let those puppies free, let those puppies free..
