I anchor off of old Nixon's dock. South of KBYC.
West Lake Santa Barbra in Pompano, Just south of Atlantic Blvd.

Kind of limited in FLL. Lake Silvia maybe? Big enough and draft should be ok.

Or hop outside to Miami. It s only an hour and you have the whole bay. As Ralph suggested, Nixon’s sandbar is a good spot. No name Harbor on Key Biscayne is a little tight but off season and during the week there is enough room. We go there once in a while with the 84

Also for the best evening skyline view, marine stadium just north of the rickenbacker causeway is unbeatable.

Biscayne Bay is well worth the short run offshore

DOnt run the ICW as it s always shoaling at haulover

And the water is blue green. Not brown :). A little silty but green

Run outside, come in at Cape Florida. Spend the afternoon anchored at Nixon’s, come sundown do a tour around downtown and the islands between Miami and Miami Beach then anchor for the night at Marine stadium. Next next day come out thru Gov Cut and head back FLL

Biscayne Bay is a very unique body of water without anything coming close to it on the way or gulf coasts.

You can enjoy it year round, the water is blue-green and in most of it you can see the bottom, no river run off and no commercial shipping. Deep enough for larger boats yet some shallows around the shoreline for small boats.

Earlier this week with the full moon we went out sailing. Went all the way to downtown from coconut grove... the view was incredible. And we didn’t encounter any other boat. Only on Biscayne Bay

Fort Lauderdale is pretty tight. Lake Sylvia has too many sailboats already anchored in it, to anchor a 100'. Middle river possibly. I also second the Biscayne Bay anchoring. We went down about 10 miles South of the Rickenbacker on a 97' and there's a sandbar on each side of the channel, we anchored behind those, it felt like being in the Bahamas and you could see Key Biscayne and Downtown at night.

I worked Sea Tow for a while on the bay 15 years ago. I luved the night work south. Pretty, somebody else boat & fuel and made some nice money.
Some nights I would just drift & nap from Eliot to Stiltsville

I do remember a friend that anchored his 75' west side of Star island. Used his RIB to get to the Miami Boat Show many years ago.

Usually a breeze. You can kill the genny, run inverters and sleep/nap upstairs under the stars for some real quiet.

Just when you come in, don't cut that bar to short, Continue west to near the channel, then turn NorEast on the bars back side.

That s the featherbanks. They run across the bay, with only 2 cuts. The one middle on the ICW, and one on the east side near boca chita. Once you reach rhe featherbank, the water is much clearer and you can see the bottom

Boca Chita is a real cute spot just north of eliott. I havent been in there with anything bigger than my 53 as there is 6' hump in the channel. Yesterday we anchored the 84 just north of the channel entrance in 7' MLW. The harbor is just a short dinghy ride away. The island has some trails and a beach on the north side. Busy on week end though.

Ok. Got I to Ft Lauderdale last night. The plan is to go out Wed - Fri. CBP is granting me a crushing permit —- yes even for foreign flagged and list for sale.

Weather is crappy but calming down through the week. Wed night will be windy. Friday should be gorgeous.

    Too windy to anchor?
    Where is the most protection?

I can’t really reschedule so it’s either go or don’t go.

Miami Marine Stadium has the most protection.

Winds are going to be veering South on wed and Thur so Nixon’s (by KBYC) may be a littl choppy

Marine stadium is your best bet

Been chased away by police boats the last few times I anchored at the Marine Stadium. Not sure if there was an early morning sculling event the next day or what, cops would not say.
Are they cracking down on everybody, or I am just lucky?

What time of the year? They only close the amchorage around the boat show, but as much as a month before. We anchor there a lot, no issues with the rowing club
