    From the FLIBS thread, a comment started off more thoughts;
    By the time Volvo and Seven have really implemented their plans; Service & Logistics, Are they going to be behind the ball or just in front of it?
    Don't see to much more they are going to get from that Cadillac engine. No R&D for their own block.
    Could possibly a Porsche or Ferrari engine sit on top of that drive?
    This could be Volvo/7s short comings.

    Perhaps, but they've had issues breaking the sprockets on the chain drive from powerhead to lower unit. Diesel would just magnify this issue.

    The other issue is they need 91 octane or better, otherwise they aren't warrantied. I know of an owner that took on fuel in Bimini, on the way back one motor grenaded, then 30 minutes later the 2nd grenaded and he made it back on 1......they didn't warranty it.

    And he ran them "like he stole it" with the wrong fuel, what was he thinking? Should have limped home from Bimini with all three engines and his load of warranty - voiding fuel.

    He was probably thinking I have the latest tech engines behind me. More computer power than Apollo 11. Made with real world operations in mind.
    Certainly a knock sensor, technology from the 70s would be included under that cowling and the engines could run on regular gas.
    It's OK to loose the top HP for a while than loose a whole engine.

    That should have been warrantied to keep the mfg's short sights from going public.
    What brand & model was that again?

    He never knew he had the wrong fuel. Nobody told him nor do they really publicize it has to be 91 octane. When the ONLY octane I've seen anywhere on the water in South Florida is 90 octane.

    He wasn't running the boat hard, just cruising along. They are five sevens (I think the 627HP ones).

    Only up the StJohns River, to cater to the custom 2.5 Mercs pushing 300hp, do I see 92 next to a 87 octane pump.
    Sunoco tries to push it and does well just before the boat ramp.
    I do not recall (poor eye sight?) a normal pump over 89 on the water.

    Cadillac engines have knock sensors,, wtf?

    Volvo's official reasoning is to focus on electric and fuel cell. Apparently they're incapable of doing both that and Seven. Had Seven had the profits they hoped, you can be sure they would have found a way.

    Since July 2017, It appears the comments in this thread were near right on.
    Volvo Corp should of asked us before their purchase of Seven Marine.

    In the reader comments from boating industry page;
    "I certainly hope they entertain the idea of selling Seven Marine off in lieu of just "shelving" it"....

    I'm on the fence about this. Maybe,, maybe not a good idea.
    Re-reading this thread and this last development kind of drives a stake into it.

    According to one of the articles just linked, their recently appointed new President had the nerve te declare that...

    “Volvo Penta does foresee that the outboard segment will continue to be relevant for the Marine Leisure market",
    ...and at the same time...
    "IPS and sterndrives will be the center of our efforts"

    With such mature wisdom in the driver's seat, why should they ask anyone else? o_O

    Volvo bought Seven Marine in the focus of mounting a 300-350HP diesel to the mid-section and lower unit of the Seven Marine outboard. They couldn't make that work due to weight, also torque breaking things, from what I've heard.........I see no reason for Seven to exist now that Yamaha and Mercury have stepped up their HP game and are closing the gap. and lighter/stouter motors.

    Maybe you are right, but what they did was offering the Seven with DPH Duoprop lower unit...
