Sad times as another yard rolls off the yacht scene for the worst. British yard Green Marine is the latest culprit to be hit by hard times and be forced to close its doors. The closure resulted in the loss of 46 jobs. This yard did specialized work particularly in building composite/carbon hulls and superstructures for its parent company Vitters Yachts. Green Marine was hoping to receive the work for a hull and superstructure to help prolong their existence but that deal apparently never came through. The company went into voluntary liquidation on October 3rd.

They did quite a bit of the work on the current generation of Volvo Ocean Race 65s if I remember correctly. I believe that as part of the design and construction consortium they would also have been involved in the maintenance/repair of the boats between Legs as well... wonder how this will affect the upcoming race. Hopefully those 46 people that lost jobs will find their skills needed in the upcoming short-term at the very least.
