Detroit diesel hole in the block, repairable?

    Yeah, but none of the marinizers kept them factory HP until the DDECs and Penske came along made them stop tinkering with them......Covington made 12v71 TI's up to 850HP, Key Power also 850HP and I forgot what J+T rated them at. I ran a set of Covington 12v71TI's that were rated at 735 or 750hp. The injectors used a really weird height 1.46" (generator setting in DD book for the injectors) instead of 1.98" (the factory marine injector height in the DD book.) At 1.98" they would black smoke like crazy at 1000 rpms and all of the way up.

    Yep, black smoke.
    You need cool air if you going to pour fuel in.

    At 1.46" which is what Covington set them up at it runs crystal clean, no visible smoke at any RPM.
