Consolidated Marine Corp: Avenger

Back in the mid 70's, I vaguely remember the Consolidated name, but I knew nothing about them. For some reason, my bad memory tells me they were affiliated with North American, which produced a popular and well built line of 20 something feet, fish-type cruisers. They basically looked like little Bertrams without flybridges.

I am a current owner of a 1969 Avenger. She has twin Rebuilt Chrysler 440's and all new exaust manifolds, elbos, and risers. I've just completed a major $20,000 refit and wish I had more $$ to give her the diesels she deserves. This is a seriously overly well built boat. Heavy matted-woven Fiberglass Hull. Capable of Speeds of up to 33 MPH and built by Jim Wynne and Walt Walters according to a published article I have from Motor Boating/January 1968 which you can also purchase from ebay. I am also in the process of trying to learn more about her. The Rumors that I've hurd however are that yes they were in competition with Hatteras, and when Avenger went out of Business they sold the Molds to Hatteras and that is what Hatteras is based on today. (this could be total bs, but I would very much like to find out if their is any truth to it). I am so lucky to own this boat. It is so affortable for the space and luxury that it affords it's almost laughable as compared to current selling Vessels of this type and size in todays market place. If, their were really only 50 built, then I am truly lucky to own one. I know of one other that is lying in my Harbor here in Ventura. One that took for ever to sell in Wisconsin, one that sold in the Sacremento Delta, a 1972 flybridge currently for sale in Michigan, and one that is currently listed for 100k on the gulf in Texas. So, in the last 2 years of ownership, this is what has come up for sale. This is an exstremly rare boat to have. The picture of the one listed here is new to me so that makes a total of 7 that I know of left in the World. It would be fantastic if all the Avenger Owners could figure out a way to start a forum much like catalina yacht owner's have. Just a suggestion for any further readers that find this link. You may however want to rename the link so it can be found just as Avenger Yacht, Avenger Boat. This Vessel Apraises at over $80,000 and usualy sells for around $70,000 - $75,000. Mine, is the only one I know of with a queen pullman berth in the aft cabin. The headroom and space on this boat is truly fantastic. 6'5" headroom through out except in kitchen over 12'. Beam is stated as 13'10" length is 39'10" and draft is 42". I am not so certain that these measurments are 100% since my beam seems to measure out around 13"4. I too am looking for information on the Avenger. I have a 66 and am looking for the specs for the hardtop. I have canvas and really need the hardtop out here in the Pacific Northwest. Any info appreciated.

HI, I have a 1968 Avenger 39 I bought about 7 months ago. Are there any Avenger 39 owner clubs?

We also recently purchased a 68 avenger with twin 440 Chrysler Marine engines. The hour meter says 2600, and the mileage claims 10000, but I doubt either are very accurate. Very few seem to know of the boat, but we have been enjoying it as a family and it seems to be very sturdy, even with large crowds on the back deck. Looking forward to hearing more. Our next plan is to replace the rotting swim platform. I would like to raise the platform a foot higher at 3 and 1/2 foot. Not sure if I should do wood or fiberglass. My experience with either one is somewhat limited. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi,I want to rewire and plumb and try to bring to new condition but 1969 look and feel.I can't find any picture of how it looked new.mine is untouched for the most part.stairs are not from my boat for sure.kitchen is off some how.can't figure it out because I don't know what it looked like.stuff like that.I'm the 3rd owner.2nd never drove it or did anything but cheap dock side up keep.lol thank you for replying..I'm not good at this so it took me a bit to see your reply.thanks again

Mine has the original layout except the stove/range and fridge swapped positions as it made more sense.

I sent to wrong place.my response...long text to.so I have to do again.lol so here we go again...plumbing it is easy now just replumb.heads will be same but take care with vents loops sags and the like.not important to be original can't sail that way right.get in trouble.lol rewiring as well not important original.my boat has the bunk beds and head..I guess I have the original couch and after seeing that picture I think I through out chairs.ugly.what an ass.lolthank you for getting back to me.my boat is a1969 full top I guess..love my boat....moving on it as soon as I can..son is in collage now so I can do what I've always wanted too..17 yrs I've been paying and waiting...I redid most of the stairs.I think I can buy on ebay a magazine about my our style boat.I can't learn or get enough.I just learned from what you sent me they came with diesels.didnt know that.love to switch her to that.thank you..I'm at work and I can't talk but wanted to thank you.for your time its funny boat people you meet people that will help you straight up and then there are lot helping themselves...lol thank you for helping me on my hole in the water.lol love my boat.thanks again

Our tile ceiling was removed in the back bedroom and we are debating on what to use to cover the roven woving.Our setee was removed before we bought the boat, but we replaced it with a straight six foot counter top and three cabinets underneath. There is a some open space for the dog's food and water and a flip top garbage can. The extra counter space is nice for the microwave and setting food out. We have not missed it, but we never had it. There are usually too many on board to fit around the setee anyway. Our boat came with a fairly updated vacuflush system that works well. Onan generator. One of our 440s seems to have a little bit of blow by. I think it might be a sticky valve, but I am not sure. We will be hauling out soon for winter. Pictures will be posted. Nice to hear we are not alone

I had mine for17 y r s.my son is in collage now and I want to live on mine.its in tact for most part.3rd owner.first one short time.2nd 30yrs.never touch it just up keep.I'm3rd and17 yrs later I'm ready.I've been saving parts over the yrs.salvaged things as well and now its my time lol my son is out house for most part.. or stay on boat if you like.but my time.sanded it and ready to paint outside.inside I have all new stuff.I've been waiting...to install when I figure out how to insert a photo I will.thanks for getting back.love my boat!!
