Getting close to replacement time, what seems to be the best bang for the buck today ? starting only 32V
Define replacement time? Calendar date or loosing performance? East Penn, 19" flooded batteries have last us the longest, some 7+ years. I tap off the port third battery for 24Vdc equipment (10kw radar). The stb bank, #3 backs up the 24Vdc inverter when I want to sleep way late with no gen-set. There are AGMs available but I have found not worth the money vs same life span. They are also smaller and don't have the punch as the 19" flooded batts we have. Our ship; 8, 8volt, 19" batts for 2 x 32v banks, 12V71TIs and ship. 2, 12v 8Ds, gen-sets and 12Vdc equipment. 4, 12v Trojan 27tmx making our 2x2, 24Vdc inverter bank. All flooded and money savers.
One side is 8 8v golf carts series parallel, they are good for at least another 3-5 yrs, the other side is experimental 3x12's for 36v, have been working good for 2 yrs, starting only but it's getting tome to go back to a 32v set up for that side also. I had poor luck with the 19" 8 v sets before so have been sticking with the golf carts..this change I will probably do in mid winter up here as will have to rewind the alternator. Gens are on 12 v using golf carts along with electronics for 12 v stuff.
