    No... the new builds are not immune.

    First the Millennium 80HT By Otam and then the As130 by Al Shaali Marine... yikes! :confused:

    I don't want to be a hater, but it looks like neither yard put any real effort into exterior aesthetics. (I'll admit that the AS130 at least has a nice master, albeit with a somewhat busy ceiling.)

    Thoughts?

    I'm no old fuddy-duddy and like progressive designs, but the new crop of motoryachts seem to have lost the ethos of elegance. They are blunt and aggressive, perhaps like the new owners?

    Sailboat design, however, has been tremendous in recent years. Some very fine vessels have been launched that really catch the eye. Perchance they have had the hand of a superior yachtsman in their design rather than some hamfisted oaf with a CAD program on his computer?

    My attention was gained by a 130' yacht with only 900 nm range, actually 809 nm per the web site.

    To each their own.

    What strikes me is they both look like old boats. Not intentionally old looking like a heritage model. Just old.

    I agree! There's been some great strides forward on the sailboat designs but they needed to work towards these designs to try and bridge the gap between sail and power.
    Meanwhile, power designs seem to have pushed the limit on luxury and running out of ideas other than futuristic design lines. (I could be wrong as I don't stay on top of all the new stuff - just my impression on what I've seen).

    I agree wholeheartedly, but I think there's a significant difference between "not my style" and "simply did not bother trying".

    S/Y A is a perfect example of this. I do not like her at all. I think it's a design that utterly lacks any grace, elegance, or purity of purpose - what I personally look for in a yacht's design - but I cannot deny that someone put a hell of a lot of effort into making her look the way she does.

    And how about the compound job on the 80HT? Swirl marks for days.

    Naw, same problem, different model, similar issues;

    High maintenance that has not proven any performance per design.

    Interiors of many new yachts of all sizes look like the insides of a millenial's inner city apartment. Gone are the soft look and feel of wood and the gentle curves that come with it.

    They have been replaced by chrome, blacks and browns and lack all of the softness that we have come to expect with older boats. They have HUGE windows of all shapes and sizes scattered all over the hulls and upper structures.

    Just downright fugly, but that's just my opinion.

    The best looking yacht out there are the Fletcher Class & Gearing class destroyers. The best looking ships out there are the Iowa class battleships!!! Ahhhh yes. Classic lines and STEAM plants good for 38 kts without breaking a sweat!!!
