I would think a new thread asking for feedback on the 72 Offshore Yacht is justified.

As Ken hasn't posted here since 2013, doubt he's going to respond.

I use N+G Engineering, they're not a dealer but good with MAN's. If you want to stick to a dealer, I must say Marine Diesel Specialists in Fort Lauderdale would be my first call. Can always get advice on the phone, good work, good service and they stock most of the Man wear parts.

Just read this, and noticed a negative post about bayside diesel in mystic, ct. They did work on my 820's and I was extremely pleased with the price the work the timing. Honest, competent operation.

Should one run away from a used Viking with 2700 hours on 820's. I have another Viking in mind with 1050's, it has 2100 hours, however records don't exist since the owner is deceased. I intend to do have engine surveys performed, but I'd hate to end up with a pair of engines near end of life.

No, I have a customer with 6000 hours on Man 820's that have never been majored......both motors should go 5-6000 hours.

Super, Thanks the information Capt J. I was hoping you would chime in. Coming from you with your experience gives me confidence to look into the boats a little further. Appreciate all the contributions you make to this forum!

They had some valve issues, soft metal. Just make sure the valves were changed in the heads. Not sure the era the heads had issues, but were fixed at the factory at some build date. A good MAN dealer can elaborate.
