Transfer title to LLC and refinance the boat....?

    So far so good.
    No denial from the City yet, but they made calls to the City dock and surfed my LLC to see if I was real..
    Put in a sales order to sell mutual funds to pay off the boat and transfer title to the LLC.
    Realized 4 minutes later the market was in a nose-dive.
    Cancelled sell order and hoping for good weather tomorrow.
    Except a developing storm is coming this way.
    Never boring around here.

    Got approval from the City, but only verbal.
    Need guinea pigs for my new charter operation: "Odin Charters"
    Thinking about charging $100.00 per hour.
    (Special pricing for this group of course and will trade a boat ride for help building a webpage: Got the tool kit from godaddy, paid for 5 years hosting in advance and so far only got the headline right. Need to sit down this weekend and just do it, painful as it may be.)
    Spread the word, but babes and booze not included, only Boat, Captain, Gas, Dockage, Taxes, etc

    You re making progress !

    Don't forget to upgrade your PFDs to the cat 1 with reflective tape... :)

    Not sure why the city is making you jump thru all these hoops. In miami nobody is asking for anything when picking up at a marina, even city owned. Their jsut want their landing fee. Teh boat is still a recreational vessel, not a commercial

    Yes, good point on the PFDs, will do.

    As for the City: I am not sure they know what they are doing.
    I met the City of Fort Lauderdale Dock Master for the downtown City docks,
    He confirmed I could use the docks for commercial operations. The bureaucrats in the Business Tax and Zoning offices disagreed however.
    We went back and forth until I lost my temper and almost yelled.
    (Not a good idea, but the case got high priority and they had a staff meeting about it.)
    They finally signed off on a Home Office for a Charter Business tax permit thing.
    Pretty much what Lars above suggested.
    Verbal approval, sending stuff Monday, mainly an invoice $270.:rolleyes:

    I walked every one of the City Docks available to me for embarking and disembarking paying passengers, not docks but a long sea wall way to tall for my boat. That and the current and wave action from passing boats makes it a High Risk place to load and offload folks. Not a good choice, but I can't use my custom dock at a quiet canal, not approved.
    May ask some of the restaurants with user friendly docks to use their facilities
    Occasionally. Shouldn't be a problem..

    Can't do.
    I asked: No commercial operations from The City's boat ramps.
    Only a few select Seawall spaces on the New River: Between Andrews and 3rd Ave bridge, North side, spots 54 to 61 or some such thing
    Tall concrete walls with pilings up against the walls.
    I could probably, and safely, pick up and drop off 6 Navy Seals at the City Seawall, but a little old lady would most certainly fall in, then get crushed between the boat and The wall, then drown. :(

    I see dive boats and fishing boats pick up at boat ramps all the time. Perhaps work out a deal with a fuel dock or something like that. Or possibly the old Shirt tail charlies on the new river, they no longer have a fuel dock.

    Have you checekd with privately owned marina? Usually, pick up drop off are about a buck a foot, at least in miami

    Yup, working on deals like that.
    The City has beatiful brand new floating docks along the River with hand rails and bumper guards, but only
    for private boats 26 feet or under.
    I am commercial and 27 :rolleyes:.
    Naturally I will use common sense and judgement when chartering, but the City can not give me permission.
    Better not to ask, and I don't see any armed guards on these docks, defending them from loose- cannon day charter boats out to screw the City out of a few shekels worth of dock or landing fees.

    Not yet, altought I am sure it is no problem.
    Long way to nearest marina however, much closer to shirt tail charlies and their docks. (now Pirates Republic)

    Haha, I know what you are thinking.
    It has crossed my mind, but got a bad neighbor, had to sue him once.
    He would love a charter boat in the canal:)

    I have been there so many times they won't even lift an eyebrow if I meet 6 folks at a table, drink with them and go for a boat ride.
    The difference this time is I would be drinking tea, not margaritas on the rocks :cool:

    Well., I am a private boat, but when I was dealing with the city they pointed out I was doing business and commercial operations when I had paying pax onboard.
    Got any reference material showing a private vessel is not commercial while doing commercial operations with a paid Captain onboard?

    Quick update: Had to change the Documentation to Commercial with a Coastwise endorsement. Signed up for a Random Drug Test program.
    Changed FL Registration to Commercial Charter. Added boat name to both sides of the bow as required by the USCG. Got a Type 4 Ring, 24", white.
    (Orange required for International voyages)
    Downloaded the CG Light List to my iPhone and will subscribe to weekly updates. Same with Notice to Mariners, electronic device ok.
    Trying to schedule an inspection for my Uninspected Passenger Vessel (UPV)
    The CG will come to my dock, look at everything and if in compliance will issue a sticker. No charge.
    Hopefully that will be the final step.
