Isn't technology great. I would not call Pop's strobe really hand held, certainly not cheap near 40 something+ years ago, not battery operated (120Vac) nor easy to use. Thing belongs in a museum. Oh, I've seen it used to balance car tires. Anybody out there remember balancing car tires, on the car, with a strobe? Time fer me to get up to date with you kids also. Think I'll pick up one of these modern fangled thingeys also. ,rc
Saving my baby Gen The Neiko is on the way from Amazon for $25. free two day shipping. Thanks again guys, I will post my results. Ralph, I only remember balancing tires with a bubble level. Maybe your not that old. Dave
Saving my genny Got the digital tach and it works great! No flicker, just a laser and a fast sample by the computer. Anyway I found I was running her at 1930 RPM. Too fast for me. So I settled on 1850 @ 61Hz @ 114.4 at load. I think I will be OK for now. Going to carry an extra 12V supply to give the exciter a shock once in awhile. Thanks for letting me in this one and thanks for all your help. Next winter project (its 80 today):strip some awlgrip off some teak and see what she looks like. over.
My issue is exactly the same as this one. I am an owner of a Onan MDKD generator and lost the exhaust elbow due to severe corrosion. This allowed salt water into the generator portion. I need a complete generator end . The stator and the rotor on mine is nonfunctional . I received a quote for new parts and the amount is punishing. There mast be a number of these sitting in someone's garage that I can buy? Please give me a shout if you can help me! Your help is very appreciated. Larry Redmond, Washington Phone Number Removed

I think there is a voltage regulator that is adjustable on those that you can adjust to get the voltage up to 120-125 volts, as well.
Have an old Onan that I replaced with a new Cummins 9kw. The back end is almost new. Less than 100 hrs. also has a brand new water pump if anyone is interested in parting it out let me know.
It is a 8KW Looking through some paperwork looks like serial number is A870866636. I am heading to boat next week and will go by warehouse and verify serial number. Rings were worn and needed to be rebuilt so I just went a head and bout a new one and have all new power in both engines and genset.
Sorry to be a past but I was curious whether you had any more information on your generator head Larry
