Today another superyacht site was reporting for a rumour that Marriotti has a contract for an 180m for Prince Alwaleed..

25 seconds in and subsequently later, there is a clear profile shot of the project - adjacent to the where CC tear down is taking place.

At some point do we stop calling it a yacht and start calling it a privately owned cruise ship? There are a couple of "houses" owned by middle eastern princes that are really hotels, complete with all the amenities, for their families to stay in.

From these recent pics it looks ALOT like the Lurssen "Al Said" with those three mast arrangements and the sand colour.

That was my first thought, even back in August. Now that it's farther along in build, it seems more than a coincidence.

Doesn't make sense to me. A yacht of similar size as a replacement?

Yeah it doesn't make much sense but the Mariotti one has alot of similar attributes to "Al Said" though. The colour and the arrangement of the masts. etc

Maybe it's just an addition to the fleet.

Rumours have it as a replacement for "Al Said" support vessel, the "Full Al Salamah". The dimensions are around 164m x 28m per the AIS signal out of the ship. The build name was "Mariotti 131". Even if so is true, it would be almost 10m longer then "Al Said", so maybe it could also be considered a replacement to "Al Said" itself which was delivered only in 2008 ??

The "Fulk al Salamah" is a transport and support ship. The gear it carries would not be able to be carried by this Mariotti.

I agree with KIWI. This is a totally different ship. Also Middle East royalty is not really on my radar, I have a different opinion. The original Lürssen built Al Salamah was sold resently. This new Mariotti "cruise ship" is very similar in appearance and style to the original Al Salamah. It could well be the replacement for this ship, as Al Salamah has no successor jet.

Btw. Al Salamah was the best maintained and cleanest Middle East owned and based ship / yacht of its time.
It was under the so called "carefree package" contract with Lürssen, means completely operated, maintained and kept neat and clean by Lürssen crew (except the personal servants, they came from the local palaces). Also she never travelled much, we saw her almost every year for service and cosmetics at Lürssen.

Just an educated guess :). IMHO a poor exchange.
