Anyone have experience and input on Awl Wood coating? We are stripping cap rails and at the advice of my varnisher, I am leaning towards using the Awl Wood product. Would love some real use feedback, especially if there is any validity to its increased flexibility over Awl Brite.
It was used on the mast and sprit of Sycara IV. Would be nice if someone from their crew chimed in... http://www.yachtforums.com/review/burger-151-fantail-cruiser-sycara-iv.12144/
It has been available in the US from my suppliers but unfortunately I haven't used it yet so don't have any firsthand reports for the OP.
Actually, the full line of the MA series is available, I just checked and two of my larger wholesale suppliers have plenty on the shelves. I'm about to start the interior coatings on a new build (destined for the African continent!) and will give the MA a shot and report back for the OP.
I have seen a new Fleming at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show with the Awl Wood finish. At the time the sales person suggested it was a Burr Yacht sales "special product". I thought it was a reasonable look instead of the real thing, however I wonder how you would repair any chips without it looking patchy over the years.
I started using it inside my boat a few weeks ago. Easy to use and apply. Haven't used it outside but will soon on my sailboat.
